A4 Christmas Card and CUP News

In a blog post last month I said that I’d made a competition entry one day, but that I wouldn’t show you my card until voting on the competition had finished.  Well here’s the card:

Christmas Card Competition Entry

This is the description I gave with the card:

For this card I used:

cup120395_2 – Away in a Manger
Starry Starry Nights 2 background
Silver mirror paper
A3 sheet Centura Pearl Snow White Card
Holographic silver card
Black and white fine border peel-offs
Crystal glitter
Red and clear sticky back faux gems in various sizes
Foiled acetate
Greetings banner (Nadolig Llawen – Welsh for Happy Christmas)

I prepared the base card by scoring and folding the A3 sheet in half and then cutting out a strip of around 1.5″ out from near the right side and sticking a bridge of the foiled acetate in. I stuck panels of the foiled paper to each side of the card, leaving a 0.5cm border, and onto this silver mat I stuck panels of the starry night background that I’d printed onto Super Smooth white card. I cut another panel of the silver paper 3cm larger than the base image and punched a pattern in the corners before attaching the base image. I went around the starry night background with white fine border peel-offs and the base image with black fine border peel-offs for some definition. The matted main image was stuck to the card front using 2mm deep, double sided, foam tape. I then used a quickie glue pen over every one of the “stars” on the background paper and sprinkled on the crystal glitter (it doesn’t show up very well in the photo, but in a lit room the card just sparkles when it is moved in the light.) I then gently curved the decoupage layers by hand to give some definition and stuck them all in place, using the foam tape for the two lower layers and then glue gel for the upper layers. I cut a star shape from the holographic silver card and stuck it to image towards the top left. I finished off the card by putting red faux gems in the corners of each of the starry night backgrounds and clear faux gems at the bottom of the right hand panel and all over the sky in the main image.

CUP Update:

CUP Newsletter Mailer There have been a few E-mail mailers sent out by the CUP Team since my last blog post.  You can see copies of the mailers online by clicking the relevant links:

  • Monday 31st Octoberhere – Some new “Handkerchief Fold Card Kits” from Robyn Cockburn, and a CUP TV episode by Clive Couter, amongst all the other info in this one.
  • Wednesday 2nd Novemberhere – This mailer had a “New From” feature showcasing the “Mini Book Kits!” by Sandie Burchell.  Sandie is originally from Leicestershire, UK but now resides in Southern California with her family. Both Sandie and her twin sister Sue Douglas are Exclusive Designers for craftsUprint.  The “Card Maker Spotilight” in this mailer focuses on Rae Trees and one of the Handkerchief design cards she’s made up, and Rae is from Australia – which just goes to show how much of an international family of crafters CUP is.
  • Friday 4th Novemberhere – Lots of designs created by Platinum sellers on CUP to be seen in this mailer, together with news from the CUP stand at the Hobby Craft show at the NEC in Birmingham.  Amongst the many CUP designers holding workshops at the NEC are the two Titanium designers (to reach this status they’ve each sold over 50,000 items on the site, so you know their work is good) – yes indeed, Sandie has flown in from the USA and Carol Clarke is there as well.

Card Making Competition –  As announced in the mailer of the 2nd, the competition winner in the October, making a Christmas card with a CUP download, competition winner was Georgina Naraido with her fantastic card made using a kit created by Exclusive Designer Ann-marie Vaux.   You should be able to see the winning card by clicking – here.

A big thank you for those who left such nice comments with my card, and those who voted for it.

A new competition should be starting on the 7th, so keep your eyes pealed for news of that.
