Some Gift Items and a Card I Made

I made these items before Christmas, but as I didn’t want those whom I was giving them to as gifts to see them before the day, I didn’t post up the finished items at that time.  The recipient of the shawl knew she was getting the shawl as I’d shown her the start of the item to check she liked the colour just after I started it, but no idea that I was making her a toning necklace as well.  And the recipient of the bag didn’t know anything about it, although her daughter had seen me starting to make it.

1Necklace 07 02   2Throw 03 04

This necklace (1) was made to give to the same person who I was giving the shawl I made on my knitting board (2) that I’ve shown you before to.

This small bag (1) was what I created from the piece of woven material made from sari silk ribbon (2) that I’ve also shown you before.  I stitched in a plain cotton lining – I am so impressed with the Brother sewing machine I bought a couple of months ago going through such a think material without any problems – and crocheted up the two sides afterwords.  The strap was made the same way and a strip of backing material stitched on with my sewing machine as well.  The catch is a simple bead button with a thread loop. I put some shower gel, hand cream, etc., inside as part of the gift.

  1. This was another card I’d made for a card swap in November.  It’s made using a similar idea to the one I posted in a previous blog post (here) but this time I used a window die-cut in front of the nativity scene.  I used the Away in a Manger sheet by Judith Flavel (I only used the decoupage layers, but not the main square background image. Some intricate cutting out was involved in making the card, but I have made other cards using just the square main image, which, of course, didn’t involve any intricate cutting.  I’ve had a lot of use from this particular design this year and will probably use it again for cards next year.)

Card Making Competition – Entry is suppose to be closing today for the competition to make any New Baby card using any download from Craftsuprint, so the voting should soon be opening.  Voting will be open to Registered Crafters & CUP Designers, but even if you are not eligible to vote you can still pop along to the competition gallery to see all the uploaded entries.  You can see them by clicking – here.  As usual, I won’t be putting a picture of my entry up here on my Blog until after the close of voting, but you are welcome to have a good look at all the entries to see if you can guess which is mine.  I do hope that all those who are eligible to vote will take a good look at all the entries, including looking to see if they’ve followed the rules and put up a CUP number, etc., and will use their chance to vote for the card they think best shows the card maker’s skill and flair to take a designer’s work and make something special with it.
