A Bit Of News!
-oOo-
Today I have a bit of news for you –
You may have noticed that, amongst the wide assortment of cards and other crafty items I make, that I’ve used a fair number of digi-stamps, scrapbook backgrounds and elements, etc., designed by the very tallented designer Janette Padley of Dragons Lair/Stamping Dragon Designs. Well – a few weeks ago I was invited to join a small design team who will be posting inspiration posts on “The Dragons Den” blog, in rotation, at the begining of every week. These “pick of the week” posts started on Monday the 2nd with a post by our leader Marleen, and was followed by a post by the tallented Fran on Monday the 9th. And on Monday 16th it is my turn to post my first Design Team item.
I used an image I’ve used before for my first post, and went for a rustic look for a masculine card. Well we all know how difficult it can be to make a generic card for a man, especially if he’s not intereste in either sports or drinking, so I thought it would be a good idea to get an inspiration card for a man uploaded before I get carried away with more feminine cards – one of which will be coming up in my next post in three weeks time.
CARD
Stamping Dragon Designs Item:
Giraffe Digital Stamp
Consumables:
- 2 x A4 sheets of Kraft Card
- 1 x A4 sheet of 300gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
- 1 x 12″ x 12″ sheet of green glitter card.
- ProMarkers – Forest Green, Olive Green, Pear Green, Pressed Leaf, Black, Tan, Cinnamon, Shale, Cool Grey 4.
- Finger-lift Tape
- Glue gel
Equipment:
- Scoreboard
- Joy Trouvaille Embossing and Cutting Machine
- Branch and assorted leaf dies – Tattered Lace Branches, Tattered Lace Twig and Leaf, Joy Crafts, Spellbinders
Method:
After printing the digi-stamp I coloured it in. Rather than try to go for colouring a large background area smoothly I decided to go for a camouflaged look background (an idea of how I did this can be seen in my Pictorial Guide “Colouring In – 19. Dappled Backgrounds“). I also did a separate panel of the camouflaged background for cutting out the leaves – because I wanted the colours to match and also wanted my leaves to look dappled rather than a flat colour. I also did a panel of the same browns as used on the giraffe to be used for the branches. I just tore around the digi to create my topper, and tore two mats of Kraft card and Glitter card to go behind it, and used an assortment of dies to cut out branches and leaves. One sheet of Kraft Card was simply scored and folded in half to make the base card. I stuck everything together with tape and glue – but I kept these to the centre of each piece so that the edges could just lift – it gives a bit of a dimensional look without making the card too deep to go into an ordinary envelope.
Look out for my next post on The Dragons Den on the 7th October, 2013.
