Even More October 2013 Crafting

A Short Update, Some More Musings, And Cards – Including Christmas Cards

I know that I write a lot in each blog post but please don’t think that you have to read every word I’ve written. If you don’t want to know what I used and how I made a card you can just click the thumbnail images to view each card at a larger size, and then click “Back” and scroll down to the next section.

There’s not a lot of an update to give you this time as I’ve been having a slow start to the week.  I’ve made up a couple of cards that I started on last week, and also made some realy simple Christmas cards.  But no tidying up – I really will have to get back to it one day.

LEJ winnerOne thing I can tell you is that I’ve won in a challenge.   I’d entered the first card in my post of the 5th October into several challenges.  One of these challenges was the “LEJ Designs – Challenge No. 73 – Things with Wings”.

In this weeks post on the LEJ Designs Challenge Blog it was announced that I was the winner of the crafty goodies.

It’s quite exciting waiting to see what the crafty goodies are.  I’ve had an E-mail back to say that they’ll be in the post to me in the next few days so it won’t be long before I’ll have some more goodies to play with.

TheBigTidyUp 09CWhy is it that after I buy something at a reasonable price some companies will then bring out an equivelent at a cheaper price?

You may remember that I showed you my neat, tidy and sorted ProMarkers, FlexMarkers and Metalic Markers.  I’d originally bought a small nuber of Companion The Ultimate Pen Storage, and when my collection of pens grew I’d bought some extras to build up my pen storage until it looked like this and I had spare spaces for further pens to be added – which you can practically guarantee that I’ll do in the next few months because there are some more pens that I just NEED.

Well now Crafter’s Companion have bought out the same type of storage, but now in black.  The Crafter’s Companion Spectrum Noir Universal Pen Trays are made from 100% recycled plastic and are quite a bit cheaper, per pack, than the earlier clear plastic trays.

I know that, if (when) I need more pen storage that I’ll be going for the cheaper variety because I’m not fussy about the colour – as you can see from my photo they look dark rather than clear when in a corner shelf all filled up in any case.

Mind you, I’m still glad I got my storage when I did because it’s given me months of neat storage and easy access to my pens – but isn’t it always how it goes?

  1. All About The Girl Elements by Janette Padley and Twenties Fashion Stamp by Janette Padley (I took several elements from this kit into one of my graphics packages and resized and moved them around until I was happy with the layout I’d created for an A5 card front with room to place a digi-stamp image in the centre.  I put second copies of the frame element, together with putting the wording “Penblwydd Hapus” – which is Welsh for “Happy Birthday” – onto a panel on the other side of my A4 working area and then printed everything out onto 300gsm Super Smooth white cardstock.  I also printed the digi stamp out onto the same cardstock at a small enough size to fit into the frame on the card.  I coloured the digi using ProMarkers.  The colours I used were: Plum Preserve, Fresh Bloom, Rose Pink, Peony, Cinnamon, Satin, Warm Grey 1.  I then cut everything to size before sticking the card front directly to the front of a decorative edged, pre-scored, white base card using finger-lift tape.  The digi was attached to this, and then the frame and greetings panel were attached using 2mm deep, double sided, foam tape.)
  2. Different angle look to try and show some of the dimension in the frame element.

  1. 4 Frame Toppers & 2 Cards *MACHINE Cut Files* by Rae Carr and Lilac silk with forget me nots background by Pamela West (I printed the background design out onto 300gsm Super Smooth white cardstock at a little less than A5 in size.  I took the window frame layer file into my Silhouette Studio software then cut them out using my Silhouette Cameo – one layer from a pearlescent Bazzil cardsotk and one from a lilac 216gsm weight cardstock. I also cut a few small flowers from linen textured cardstock using my Cameo and two corner elements from Centura Pearl Snow White cardstock using a die in my Joy machine.  I stuck this background panel directly to the front of an A5 white base card using finger-lift tape, and then stuck the windows, flowers which Id coloured with ProMarkers – Bluebell and Lime Green – and corner elements onto this using foam tape and glue gel.  I’ve left the central panel blank to add a greeting to once I know what language it will be needed in.)
  2. An angled view from the side to show some of the dimension.

I don’t buy crafting magazines very often – I tend to get all the inspiration I need from the TV and the Internet – but every now and then I will get a magazine just to see what’s in there and what’s free.  Well I ordered issue 123 of “Cardmakign & Papercraft” for delivery with my groceries from Tesco on Saturday.  The free kit included some Christmas backgrounds and toppers.  I was just about to put them in my bag of Christmas crafting stash when I thought “why do that when I’ll need them made up soon” – so I decided to use them to make quick and easy cards straight away.  Only adding white, pre-scored, base cards from my crafting stash, some finger-lift tape and 2mm deep, double sided, foam tape, plus peel-offs saying “Nadolig Llawen” – which is Welsh for “Happy Christmas” – I made 8 quick cards to add to the Christmas cards I’ve made already.
