Assorted December 2013 Crafting

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog
A Bit Of An Update,  A Short Musings, Some Crafting But No Cards

If you don’t want to read my musings, or know what I used and how I made a card you can just click the thumbnail images to view each card at a larger size, and then click “Back” and scroll down to the next section.
I know that I write a lot in each blog post – this helps me remember what colours or cardstock I’ve used in case I want to get a similar effect in the future, in addition to providing information that some readers might be interested in – so please don’t think that you have to read every word I’ve written.

– o O o –

I’ve been trying to complete a few things ready for Christmas.  Not everything is done yet obviously – I’m not rushing things, just pacing myself.  But I did get some gifts wrapped this morning.  Lots more to do, but it’s a start.

One thing I really do need to do is clear all my crafting bits and bobs that have migrated to the table in the sitting room.  We use the table for nuts and nibbles and fresh fruit, and also for putting out the Christmas cake, over the Christmas period, so it must be cleared before then – mind you, I don’t want to put things out too early or somebody will have nibbled what they shouldn’t well before the day.

MUSINGS:

The only thing I’ve been wondering the last few days is – where did I put all the keyrings and bag charms I’ve made?  I’ve found some but not the rest.  I know I put them somewhere safe until I needed them – I just can’t remember where I put the first batch.  I’ve even looked back through my blog posts to find out what other jewellery I made at the same time and found those – but no keyring!  Isn’t it annoying when something has been put safe and you’ve got no idea where now?!  Or is that just me?

BOOKMARKS, GOODIE BAGS, ETC.:

I’ve bought books as a part of their Christmas presant from me for some family members, and so I decided to make little bookmarks to go with them.  I’ve made 4 of this type so far in different colours so that family members don’t mix them up.

  1. These bookmarks are made out of 6 stranded embroydery cotton floss that’s knotted in the same way as some children make friendship bracelets.  After finishing the knotting I went over the top and bottom ends with a sewing machine to make sure that the knots stayed in place and then I separated out the 6 strands to give a finer, fuller, look to the ends, before trimming the trailing ends.

I usually buy a big box of nice chocolates and split them up into smaller goodie bags of chocolate for family members for Christmas, and I will do that for several family members, but this year I decided to make some chocolate shapes for some of them.  I used food grade molds to make the shapes.  There are three red dragons in one pack made out of red Candy Melts, and there’s one chocolate motorbike in the second made out of light cocoa Candy Melts.

  1. Blazing Autumn Mini Theme by Janette Padley (This kit includes lots of richly coloured components that would look great on a scrapbook page or greetings card.  But for this project I put on a white panel in one of my graphics packages and added a greeting before I printed out two of the backgorunds onto 300gsm Super Smooth white cardstock and then cut out a fancy panel before scoreing and folding in half.  I put my chocolate shapes into a food grade plastic bag, folded the top over, then put the folded panel over it.  I then popped two staples through to hold everything in place.)

SEWING:

A couple of years ago I was fortunate to win a box of patchwork goodies in the Sew magazine giveaway.  I’ve not nearly finished using them yet, and I have several pieces of patchwork that are a work in progress – but I did finish this quilted cushion cover made using strips from a Jelly Roll of batique finish material.  This one is a house warming gift.

  1. Jiggys Daffodill – Rugby Welsh – Coloured by Janette Padley (Rather than make a card, this time I printed onto printable cotton at around half size, peeled the backing away, backed it and appliqued it onto the front of a cushion cover I made which incorporated a ribbon of the Welsh flag.)
  2. Closeup of the part of the cushion cover that includes Jiggy and the Welsh flag ribbon.

KNITTING:

This is a scarf – but not for a human.  I’ve been persuaded that Blocwend, one of my nephews’ teddy, was in desparate need of a “Welsh” scarf.  So this is what I came up with:

1 ScarfBlocwend 01 03

As usual this is knitted on a Knitting Loom over some six stitch pairs out of Stylecraft Special Double Knitting yarn.  After knitting I cut two strips of two Welsh Flags from a narrower ribbon of the Welsh flag than I’d used as one of the stripes on the cushion.  I folded these over the ends of the scarf and stitched them in place using my sewing machine.

(Thank you for reading this blog post. I hope you like what you’ve seen and read – You should find a box below where you can leave a comment if you feel like it but due to the fact that, like many I’m sure, I’ve had some problems with Spam/advertising posts that are absolutely nothing to do with the content of my blog, I now moderate all comments before they go live. Genuine comments will go live when I’ve checked through the list – usually a couple of times a day.) (Thank you to every body who’s left comments on my previous blog posts. I really do appreciate them all.)
If you can’t see the comment box then there should be a link that says “Responses” and clicking on that will bring up the box
