Card Making And Crafting Into The 3rd Week Of July 2014

An Short Update and Four Cards

Not much of an update this time – my mouth is much better than it was (but of course I’ve got another appointment with the dentist next week for another extraction so more pain to be expected). The plants in my greenhouse and other small areas I manage to work while sitting down are mostly doing well. The birds are still getting half my loganberries every day, and all the blueberries I think.  I’ve managed to make a few Design Team samples this week – some of them being digital creations and some involving cutting and sticking – which you’ll see on my blog in due course.  And I’ve made a small number of other cards.  I do hope you like them.

(If you click on the thumbnail images you can have a look at a larger image of each item.)
(Clicking on the text links below each set of images takes you to the pages where you can see some of what I used to make the cards. Where these linked pages are on the CUP site you will usually find a longer description of how I made the item at the bottom of the page.)

As we are now around half way through the current “Stampin with the Dragon” challenge to make an easel card using anything SDD (Stamping Dragon Design item by Janette Padley) on it, I decided to make a second easel inspiration piece to show you. (You can see the first challenge DT piece I made on a previous blog post -> Here!)

This time I’ve gone for a single, simple, easel, but cut the top of my created topper to give it shape.

  1. Deco Daze Collection – Page Kit by Janette Padley of Stamping Dragon Designs (I took several elements of the kit into the My Craft Studio software and resized, moved around, and layered things on top of each other until I had the pieces I wanted to make my card all layed out on my working area.  I then printed the sheet out onto 250gsm, Super Smooth, white cardstock.  I cut my base card out of 300gsm hammered white cardstock, scoreing it twice using my Hougie Board.  After cutting out the pieces I attached them to my base card using finger-lift tape, 3mm deep double sided foam tape, and glue gel.)
  2. A more angled view of the card showing more of the dimension.
  3. View straight from the front of the card.

Just a reminder to those of you who might want to take part in the challenge but haven’t, as yet, bought any items from the SDD store, or anywhere else where Janette Padley the tallented SDD designer sells her designs – FREE SAMPLES of her work are available at the store – here – and by joining the Stamping With The Dragon Facebook group – here.  Using any of the free samples as an obvious element on your creation does allow you to join in with the challenge.

I know I usually get Stamping Dragon Designs/Dragons Lair Designs digital items as downloads either from Janette Padley’s own online store – The Crafting Dragon -> here – or via craftsUprint -> here – but sometimes, if I want a lot of items from the same range all at once, then getting them delivered on a CD-ROM can be much less of a hastle than downloading section by section.  That is what I went for when I wanted to get my hands on several items from the “Simply Lovable Collection”.  No interface, no downloading to PC/Laptop (unless you are lucky enough to have lots of hard drive space and want to drag them all accross as a named folder on your drive), just simply opening and printing from the CD-ROM or taking items from the CD-ROM into software such as My Craft Studio or Craft Artist to digitally layer and re-size before printing.

  1. Simply Lovable Collection CD Rom by Janette Padley of Stamping Dragon Designs (The sheet of card front and added layers and elements for this card comes ready prepared on the CD-ROM, so I simply printed it off, cut it out, and built it up onto the front of an A5 base card using fingerlift tape, 3mm deep foam tape, and glue gel.  I did use a Red Wink of Luna brush pen to just edge the outside of the card front panel, the central panel and some of the letters.  I also used a Sakura clear glaze pen over the cnetre of the floral elements and the “thread” through the button.)
  2. A more angled view of the previous card.
  3. The same card from the front.

  1. 553 Frilly Border *SVG* by Rae Carr (I took the .svg file into the online Canvas application and downloaded it to my USB stick.  I then cut the file out of Buttermilk Basal cardstock using my ScanNCut.  I put a piece of gold mirror card behind the fancy cut out border using ultra tacky tape each side to hold it in place.  The mat was cut out of the same cardstock and I went round the edge using Sleighbells ProMarker as well as edging the base card with the same ProMarker.  I also used my ScanNCut to cut out the flowers out of vellum, the leaves out of Blingalicious cardstock, and the greeting out of sticky back vinyl.  I used foam tape to attach the panel to the card front and glue gel to attach everything else in place, finishing off by adding some faux pearls to the flower centres.)

  1. Fancy Window Easel Card MACHINE Cut Files by Rae Carr (I took the file into the online Canvas application and downloaded it to my USB stick.  I cut the various layers out of Buttermilk Basal cardstock and green Blingalicious cardstock using my ScanNCut.  I also cut out some different sized flowers from two colours of vellum.  I played around with the layers and built up my card how I wanted it, sticking things in place using foam tape and glue gel.  Glue gel was also used to stick the flowers in place and the pearls in their centre. I’ve not put a greeting on yet as I’m not sure what language the card will be needed in, or for what occasion.)
  2. Angled view of previous card.
  3. Slightly different angled view of card.
