More Card Making And Crafting In Mid July 2014

An Update, A Few Cards and Double Page Scrapbook Layout

-oOo-

In my last blog post I showed you a foot-stool that I’d re-upholstered.  I’m quite pleased with how it turned out, but boy did I pay for it the following day – I’d had a nephew use the staple gun while I pulled the hessian on the bottom into place, but I’d done the hammering in of the tacks around the top myself after he’d been collected by his father – and by late that evening my arms were really paying for it – I’d sware I’d been hammering the tacks into my forearms, not the foot-stool.  One of the affects of doing stuff when I suffer from M.E., but I keep on trying to do different small projects to see how badly, or not, the activity affects me.

So I rested for a couple of days – though with this heat I wasn’t up to doing much else in any case.  Then, of course, it was a return visit to the dentist for another extraction and one filling.  Thankfully the extraction site isn’t as painful as the previous extractions three weeks ago – the tooth came out in one piece so the dentist didn’t have to gouge pieces out.

What I have done this week is have a session sat down in front of my ScanNCut feeding in cardstock to cut out some fancy shaped base cards and some embelishments such as flowers.  I’ve also done a bit of colouring in as well – though some of it was for Design Team cards so I can’t show them to you yet – but keep your eye out from now and the end of the year.

Gardening has involved a short session out watering and picking soft fruits first thing in the morning and another session of watering in the evening, getting my loppers out every couple of days to chop back some brambles that insist on growing out of the hedges so that they don’t scratch my damaged leg as I’m moving from a chair at one location to a chair at the next to do the watering.

  1. Lattice card 1…..ScanNCut Only by Tina Fitch (I put the cutting file on my USB stick and took it to my ScanNCut.  I cut all the pieces out of one sheet of 12″ square Topsy Turvy Card which was red one side and pink the other.  This meant that I could have one colour to the front on the card and another for the flowers and flourishes.  After cutting it was simply a case of folding in half and using glue gel to attach the flower and add the flat back pearl centre.)
  2. Angled view of the card showing dimension of flower.

  1. 602 Shaped Easel *ScanNCut* by Rae Carr and 437 Keys *SnC* by Rae Carr (I took the file into the online Canvas application and resized to the size I wanted before downloading to my USB stick.  I cut all the layers out of sheets of Topsy Turvy cardstock, as well as some flowers usieng a cutting file inbuilt to my ScanNCut.  I cut a greeting “Penblwydd Hapus” – which is Welsh for “Happy Birthday” and “18”, as well as a key at two different sizes, out of sticky back peel-off vinyl as well.  I then used finger-lift tape and 2mm deep, double sided, foam tape to build up the card. I put on the peel-offs I’d created and then used wet glue to attach the flowers, finishing off by attaching leaves from my crafting stash that I’d previously cut out and also some flat back pearls.)

  1. Swirl flourish card ScanNCut Only by Tina Fitch (Having put the cutting file on my USB stick I used my ScanNCut to cut out the base card out of blue Topsy Turvy cardstock.  I used a pale green sheet of 250gsm cardstock to cut out the flourish layer and pale yellow cardstock from the same pack to cut out the flowers using a file inbuilt in the ScanNCut.   I used quick grab wet glue to attach the flourish to the card front and put the flowers on top.  I finished by wrapping a ribbon diagonally around the card and by adding little flat back pearls to the flower centres.)

  1. Swirl flourish card ScanNCut Only by Tina Fitch (Having put the cutting file on my USB stick I used my ScanNCut to cut out the base card out of 250gsm linen textured cardstock.  I used a pale green version of the same cardstock to cut out the flourish layer and pale purple cardstock to cut out the flowers using a file inbuilt in the ScanNCut.  I also used my ScanNCut to cut out the greeting “Penblwydd Priodas Hapus” – which is Welsh for “Happy Anniversary”.  I used quick grab wet glue to attach the flourish to the card front and put the flowers on top.  I finished off by putting on the greeting peel-off and adding little flat back pearls to the flower centres.)

SCRAPBOOK PAGE LAYOUTS:

Today I took my camera out with me when I did my watering this morning.  Then I came in and went back to bed with my laptop and created this double page layout showing a snapshot of what’s growing in the garden today.

1cup355409_1749 - Fun in The Sun Mini theme 100 01 2cup355409_1749 - Fun in The Sun Mini theme 101 01

Fun in The Sun Mini themeSpring Melody Papers and Spring Melody Elements all by Janette Padley of Stamping Dragon Designs where you can also find digital kits to use in scrapbooking.

I took the digital items and my photos into My Craft Studio software and layered up, resized and moved around until I was happy with my digital layout.  I saved in the digital format as well as printing out at 8″ square size for family members who want printed copies.

  1. The first page showing things outside in the garden.  Translations: Afalau – Apples; Ciplun O Ardd Maes Mieri – Snapshot Of Maes Mieri’s Garden; Pwmpen – Pumkin; Melyn – Yellow; Gwyrdd – Green; Letis a Moron – Lettuce and Carrots; Tatws – Potatoes.
  2. The second page shows the things inside the greenhouse. Translations: Blodyn Cyntaf y Melon – First Flower on the Melon; Tomatos a Cicymerau yn Cyrraedd Y Tô – Tomatoes and Cucumbers Reaching The Roof; Pupurau – Peppers; Persli a Letis – Parsley and Lettuce;
