It’s time for another inspiration post from me on the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog“. This is more or less what I posted over on that blog.

It’s been a few months since I did a card as an inspiration piece for this blog so I thought I’d make a shaped card to show you this month.  This time I’ve got my die-cutting machine, and a few dies I picked up recently, out to make a card that opens out quite dimensional but still folds reasonably flat for posting (although it would still have to go as a Large Letter in the UK if you wanted to post it, but great for hand delivery).

I used  “The Pansy Collection” kit that was launched on the 1st in the Dragons Lair Designs store.  The colours of this collection are gorgeous and it contains backgrounds that will work well with lots of other items from your crafting stash so you don’t have to make a floral card with it.  I decided to use it for an understated Easter card.

This is a photo of the card I made:

Consumables:

Equipment:

  • Scissors
  • My Craft Studio Software
  • Brother Labeling Machine
  • Tattered Lace Shutter Card Die Set
  • Cut&Boss Machine

This is what I did:

I took a lot of the elements from The Pansy Collection into the software and resized it to suite the project I was working on.  I used the software’s digital die-cut function to cut out a cross from the tag.  The elements and some sheets of backgrounds were then printed out.  I cut the tag out by hand using scissors, but used the shutter card die set to cut out the base card from hammered card, and all the matting and layering pieces from my printed out sheets.  I used white on clear and black on clear tape to print out the wording I wanted using my labeling machine.  I then folded the card along the lines indicated and glued everything in place.

These are a few more photos of my card taken from different angles, starting with a close-up of the tag.

CREATION:

I decided to decorate a frame for my Design Team Inspiration for this month’s Dragons Lair Designs Challenge.  I have lots of horse photos on my PC because my brother and sister-in-law run a horse stud from the family farm so I decided to decorate up a frame for one of the photos.

Dragons Lair Designs Item:

Consumables:

Equipment:

  • Scissors
  • Craft Knife

Photo:

  • Stallion once owned by GenAl Stud (My brother’s family busines)

Method:

I printed out the horse photo onto glossy paper and the digi-stamp and background papers onto super smooth papers.

I coloured the digi-stamp with very light colours to take away the white but not to make it darker than the horse in the photo.  I think that it’s only when put against white, in daylight, that how much colour has been added can be noticed.

One sheet of background was stuck on to cover the frame and another was used to make an inner frame mount.

The coloured digi-stamp was cut out and shaped with my fingers before being attached to the right side of the frame using foam tape.

Today a new collection is being launched in the Dragons Lair Designs store.  It’s full of different items for you to download and is called “The Pansy Collection”.

A few days ago I gave people a sneaky peak at this new collection when I posted a digital scrapbook layout I’d created using elements from The Pansy Collection and a photo of flowers from our garden that I’d taken a few years ago.

I’d used My Craft Studio Elite to put the layout together and it looked like this:

ThePansyCollectionTeaser01

Today I have a card that I made using elements from the collection to show you.

ThePansyCollectionTeaser03

I again worked on the basic layout of this 8″ square card in My Craft Studio, and when I was happy with the layout I created an extra layer of the flowers in the vase and also a digitally punched out butterfly element.

I printed out the sheet on an A4 sheet of 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock and cut everything out.

I cut everything out and attached the card front using fingerlift tape.  I then used a Sakura Clear Glase pen to give a glazed look to the glass vase.

Jpeg

I shaped the butterfly and the flowers layer and used glue gel to attach them to the card front.  I also used the same glue to attach the Welsh greeting “Penblwydd Hapus” – which means “Happy Birthday”.

These pictures are to try and show the dimension of the elements on the card.
