It’s time for another inspiration post from me on the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog“. This is more or less what I posted over on that blog –

I’m back again with a digital scrapbook layout.

July and August have been declared as our “Summer Fun Season” across the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog and our Facebook Fan Group.  And where better to have some fun this summer than out in the garden, either chilling or growing.

I decided to start off with a simple scrapbook layout of some flowers from our garden from years past.  Nothing very complicated, just a quick digital layout that took less than 15 minutes to put together, because I know that summer is a busy season, especially for those with children and/or gardens to take care of, and therefore there’s less time to craft.  With digital scrapbooking you can put together layouts quickly and, although I’ve not done so on this layout, journal relevant information about the day, or holiday, or whatever, and keep a record at the time in just a few minutes.  Then, if you want, the layouts can be printed out and further decorated when time permits, to create a hybrid layout. Or even used as a guide to creating a standard scrapbook page at some time in the future.

Dragons Lair Designs has a vast range of kits for scrapbooking, from mini kits to large collections, so you are likely to find something in the right colour scheme to go with your photos, whatever is in them.

I simply chose some backgrounds and a couple of elements from my chosen kit, together with a double frame element and took them, together with my chosen photos, into My Craft Studio.  One of the double frames was turned through 90 degrees and then I just played around with the layout before saving.

And that is it from me for today. I hope my little creations will inspire you to visit the Dragons Lair Designs store and have a play with some of the digital downloads available to buy yourself.

Please visit the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog” regularly over the next few weeks as you’ll find various “Inspiration by …” posts appear from the other design team members, as well as colouring tutorials and other posts. I’ll be back with more posts for the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog” over the coming months as well, so keep an eye out for those too.

Design Team Card

-oOo-

Today a new challenge starts on the “Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog” – so it’s time for me to share the inspiration piece I created on this month’s theme.

DLD CB_BadgeDLD DT Badge Sept 2014Each ”Dragons Lair Designs Challenge” goes live the first Friday of the month with a new theme each time. The winner will get picked by “Random” so that it is fair for all levels of crafters. The winner gets a prize, as well as a badge for their blog, and the winning entry will also be highlighted on the challenge blog the following month. Although we’d love to see Dragons Lair Designs items on your creation, you may ENTER the challenge using ANY MATERIAL you wish as long as you clearly follow the set theme. You may enter the challenge with ONE entry per month. So why not consider joining in with us this month – go to the challenge blog and have a look at the rules and the inspiration created by my fellow Design Team members.

For July the theme is : “Shabby Chic

As the theme is “Shabby Chic”, your creation doesn’t even have to be a card, it can be any hand crafted item that follows the theme. Go on – pop over to the blog and have a go.

CREATION:

I decided to decorate a box.  I’d previously started working on the box and didn’t like what I’d done, and so I’d painted all over it with black gesso to give me a blank canvas to start again.  When I saw the theme for this month I decided to get the box out again and have another go at decorating it.

This is what it looks like after I’d finished –

Jpeg

Dragons Lair Designs Item:

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
  • Glue Gel
  • Quick grab wet glue
  • 3mm deep foam pads
  • White gel pen

Method:

I started by printing out the digi stamp at a size suitable for the aperture in the box lid, and also printing out one pink shade background from Simply Soft and one green background from Oh Baby Mine.

The digi was coloured in using ProMarkers and the backgrounds were used to make No Tools Paper Flowers 02 and torn paper leaves.

I cut the coloured digi into a panel the right size to fit inside the box lid and attached it with foam pads. I went round the lid aperture and the outside edge to put a dotty pattern with a white gel pen.

I finished off by using glue gel to attach the flowers and leaves I’d made.

Here’s a slightly different angled view of the box lid –

The person who set the theme said that she was looking for “Anything soft, feminine, flowery or lacy etc” – I haven’t used anything lacy, but I hope you all like it.
