Mae’n Fyw! – He Lives!

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

Last week, Janette Padley, the designer at Dragons Lair Designs, started a weekly “Sunday Showcase” over on the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog.

It is a chance for everybody to show us items they’ve made using Dragons Lair Designs digital downloads, whether digital, hybrid, or paper based. Usually it’s the Design Team members who’s work is seen on the blog, but by linking up your creations anybody can be a part of the Sunday Showcase – and even better, at the end of the week, somebody get’s chosen by random number generator to receive an item from the DLD store- so even more reason to come and show us your DLD makes.

It’s also a chance to get a DLD FREEBIE – because Janette is putting in a link to a Dragons Lair Designs freebie in each Sunday Showcase post. And of course these could be used to join in the showcase linkup if you don’t already have something DLD in your digital library.

-oOo-

As Sunday, when the latest Sunday Showcase post was made, was Easter Sunday, I thought I’d try doing something different to a scrapbook layout, and do an Easter themed layout.

Radient_Day01b“Mae’n Fyw!” is Welsh for “He Lives!”

.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Software
  • IrfanView Software

Method:

I took all the backgrounds from the freebie collection into My Craft Studio Elite to start with.  Then I started looking in the digital punch facility area of the software for shapes and items I wanted to incorporate into my creation.

I made more than one copy of some of the backgrounds and re-sized before digitally punching out some of the shapes, sometimes keeping the inner and sometimes the outer, until I had everything I wanted for my layout.

After I had everything sized and positioned as I wanted I saved the layout.  And finaly I cropped it a bit, resized for uploading and watermarked in IrfanView.

-oOo-

Don’t forget that there’s a discount in the store for a couple of weeks on this new collection, and if you choose to buy the whole collection you’ll get an extra item that can’t be bought individually.

-oOo-

And that is it from me for today. I hope my little creations will inspire you to visit the Dragons Lair Designs store and have a play with some of the digital downloads available to buy yourself.

Some Jewellery

-oOo-

Just a short post today everybody!

In between my little bits of crafting I’m working on now I’m still working my way through photos I took of my makes during the previous year.  This time it’s the time of a set of jewellery I made as a birthday gift.  I hope you like.

.

JEWELLERY:

This is a kumihimo jewellery set of necklace and bracelet with some fine beaded additions.  It came as a kit.  The only problem is that I can’t remember now what kit, and from which company, it was.  I know I gave it as a birthday gift to a family member last September and had made it ready a month or two before that, so quite some time ago, so it’s no wonder I can’t remember where the kit came from, but I really don’t like blogging without giving an indication of where others can get find what I’ve used.

Designer Janette Padley has started a new challenge over in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group.  She’s started a new, monthly scrapbook layout challenge (digital, paper, or hybrid – or even a card or other papercraft item if you prefer), starting the 20th of the month, where anybody who takes part gets a 20% Discount Voucher to the Dragons Lair Designs online store, and the winner picked by RNG will get her newest kit.  And even more amazing – Janette has put a link in the comments of the FB event she’s created for the challenge where you can get the mini kit for use in the challenge absolutely free.

Free kit to work with, free voucher for taking part, plus the chance to get her newest kit as well – what are you waiting for – come join us in the DLD Fan Group and get involved.

Here’s what I made using the mini kit she gave free for the one starting March 20th.

Gentle Muse01b

DETAILS:

I took the items from the free digital kit “Gentle Muse” into My Craft Studio Elite software, together with an old family photo.  I then just played around with size, layers, positions, until I was happy with the layout.  I then saved the design, then in IrfanView I cropped the final layout, re-sized it for uploading and added the watermark.

A Few More Of My Older Cards

An Update and Some Patchwork

-oOo-

I’m back to showing you photos of older cards I made last year, ones that I can’t find any indication that I processed the photos, watermarked them, and blogged them before.  The large folder of photos is slowly getting less, so I’m sure I will get to the end at some point.  It just feels like a big job at the moment, in between doing a little crafting, and blogging my current makes.

The only problem is that, with so much time having past since I made the items, I can’t be certain what the main items were that I used on my creation, yet alone the actual method, so I can’t give you much details.  But I hope you like the cards in any case.

.

CARDS:

All the cards were quite simple, quick, makes.

Something tells me that the first few are made with Pollyanna Pickering images from a kit.  It looks as if I used papers from the kit as well.  All on an A4 sheet of craft card, scored and folded to make an A5 base card.

PP card03 01

PP card04 01

PP card05 01

I’m thinking that the image on this one could be from one of the Hunkydory “Little Book of …” – but no idea which one.

Hunkydory2015 card01 03Penblwydd Hapus is Welsh for Happy Birthday – so all the cards were birthday cards.

Right, back to having a look at more old photos.  Hope you are all having a good week and are manageing to have some time to do your crafting.

Who’s Been At The Easter Egg?

-oOo-

Just a short post today everybody!

I found some evidence that somebody’s been at an Easter Egg – and it’s not Easter Sunday yet.

Egg and Simply Soft evidence 2

I looked around and found some chocy chops and chocy fingers ….

Egg and Simply Soft evidence 1

But when I asked whether it was her who’d eaten the egg she said “Na, nid fi!” – which is Welsh for “No, not me!”.

I think the evidence is clear  – don’t you?

Egg and Simply Soft

DETAILS:

This is a card front I made with the broken egg digi stamp that we have been given for the March group challenge in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group.

I suppose it can be called hybrid crafting as I partly constructed it digitally before printing out, colouring in and constructing. I took several items from the Simply Soft collection, also from Dragons Lair Designs, the digi for this month and a Lucy Lion digi stamp (which we’d had for free to work with for a group challenge a while ago), into My Craft Studio Elite software.  I resized, moved aorund, added the text, etc., until I was happy with the layout – the text panel being on the working area off the main card front.

I printed out onto 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock, cut out the main card and the text panel, and coloured in the digi stamps using Nuvo alcohol markers: 449, 477, 475, 463, 461, 413, and 485.

the panel was stuck to the front of a square card the same size as it and the text panel was stuck on top.

SPRINGTIME

-oOo-

We’ve had daffodils out in our gardn for several weeks now, so I suppose it must mean that spring has come.  We’ve even had several quite pleasant days as far as weather goes.  So when I got my hands on the free “Think Spring” mini digital collection I just had to use it with some photos of daffodils I had.

ThinkSpringb

DETAILS:

This is a digital scrapbook layout put together using two photos I took a few years ago of the daffodils in our garden and a free mini-kit, “Think Spring”, that designer Janette Padley, of Dragons Lair Designs, gave as a freebie on the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog as part of her Sunday Showcase post yesterday.

I just took the items into My Craft Studio Software, played around with sizes, positions, etc., and saved as a .jpg.  I then used IrfanView to crop the image, re-size and watermark it.

-oOo-

Anybody can go to the DLD Inspiration Blog to get the freebie, and anybody can link up a creation they’ve made with any DLD items (doesn’t have to be made with the freebie, but it could be).  And if you do show us your creation by linking it up to the Sunday Showcase blog post you have a chance of winning something from the Dragons Lair Designs online store.

An Update and a Christmas Card

-oOo-

Although I’ve managed to make, and blog, a few makes this month, I’ve also continued to sort back through my photos from last year and get them ready to blog.  Well, I’ve definately arrived back as far as June 2015 (dates photos taken) in the photos of my crafty makes, and I see that I had started my Christmas card making quite early last year.

.

CARD:

Now what dies did I use for this one?  Anybody have any idea.

Christmas 2015 35 02

Christmas 2015 35 01

I think the nativity scene could have been Tattered Lace and the frame a Spellbinders die.  But I’ve put all my Christmas card making items away in a box for the time being, as I don’t intend to start making more Christmas cards for a month or two, so I’m not going to drag everything out to find the magnetic sheets of dies at the bottom of the box to check.  I quite like the simplycity of the Nativity scene on this card, so I may well go for something similar again when I get my Christmas stuff out. Perhaps I’ll use a blue or sandy coloured background next time.

Some Patchwork

An Update, Some Musings and Some Patchwork

-oOo-

I’d bought some footstool/storage boxes for the two youngest nephews so that they could put away some of the large collection of toys and crafting things they keep here, rather than have an assortment of cardboard and plastic boxes that were begining to show their age littered around the place – not that they managed to get everything in the new footstools, but the room does look tidyer now.  But one of the nephews decided that the top could be softer to sit on if a cushion was added.  And of course, as soon as one wanted a cushion the other did – so off I went to make a couple of cushion covers.  It did take me four or five months to get both done, but at least they are done now.  Just wish I could say the same about all the other part done crafting projects I’ve got, as well as the “got the stuff ready” projects that I’ve not even started.

.

MUSINGS:

UFOs – for a lot of people this, of course, means Unidentified Flying Objects.  But for us crafters it has another meaning – Un-Finished Objects.  Objects that have been started, and the aim is to finish them “one day”, but there are always other things that get in the way.

Often it is life in general that gets in the way, but also other crafting takes up the time, and trying something new.

As I’ve seen my bundle of UFOs grow over the last year I got to thinking about other crafters and how many of you out there have lots of UFOs, and what type of UFOs.  I’ve currently got a couple of crochet projects, some patchwork and quilting projects.  As well as several bits of jewellery and beading in general, as well as a couple of papercraft projects.  Very depressing not getting them finished – but I will “one day”.

So if any of you want to make me feel better about my collection of UFOs please comment below to tell me about any of your UFOs.  It really would chear me up.

.

I think this is called a pineapple patchwork pattern.

Cushion Cover 04 02

There is wadding behind the cushion cover front and I’ve done free-motion quilting on the centre panel and quilting in the ditch around some of the other  pieces.

This is the 2nd cushion cover I made.  This time the pattern is the disapearing nine patch.

Cushion Cover 05 01

This time I quilted in a cross pattern across the middle and then stitch in the ditch between the disapearing nine patch and the border around the outside of it.

A “Green” Card

 Posted by at 08:00 am
Mar 152016

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog
An Update, Some Musings, and a Quick Card

-oOo-

Every now and then, in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group, we have some challenges posted by different design team members.  Earlier this month Susan posted a “SUSAN’S SPECIAL SOMETHING” where she challenged group members to “make SOMETHING GREEN, using SOMETHING from Dragons Lair”.  Susan gave us until the 17th to make and post a photo of our creation up in the group.

The first thing DLD that jumped to my mind when I thought “green” was Hoppy frog, so off I went into my digital library to find the digi-stamps that feature him.  I decided to actually keep the overall look of the card quite simple, with very little embelishment.  I’ve not put a greeting on yet as I don’t know what occasion he’ll be used for – I think it would be good for a child because he’s such a fun character.

You’ll find the card at the bottom of my post if you want to skip my musings

.

MUSINGS:

Well, all I can say is that this last weekend has been a weekend of hoaxes, half useful information, one like = a prayer posts, and the copying of various things to supposedly “show support” or “awareness” for this that and the other – as far as what I’ve seen appearing on my news feed.  And then add in a few scammers cloneing people’s accounts and sending Friend requests to annoy me as well.

The most prolific hoax I’ve seen over the last few days is the ‘Sonia Disowns Rahul’ Virus Hoax. It doesn’t take much time to do a quick check before mindlessly copying hoaxes like this.  Don’t give the person who started the hoax the fun of seeing their hoax perpetuated all over FB and elsewhere.

A month ago I mentioned that I was fed up with the  “Urgent: All the accounts are being hacked” that people were mindlessly copying.  Part of the information was true – but it described cloneing, not hacking.  As Hoax-Slayer says “This mislabeling of the attackers may seem unimportant.  However, it IS important that any Internet security warnings contain accurate and and easily understandable information. Mislabelling can cause confusion and potentially detract from the worth of the underlying message.”

I’ve not seen much of this mislabelled warning the last few weeks, but by yesterday it is back with a vengance – on this time it’s dropped the “All the accounts” and changed it to “So nearly everyone’s account is being hacked.”  No!  not nearly everyone’s accounts, and not hacked – Cloned!  (There are hackers out there as well of course, but that isn’t what is being described).  Yesterday, Monday, I received two “Friends” requests from coloned (copied) accounts of people I am already FB Friends with.  That’s two out of over 1,000 FB Friends being cloned, so hardly “nearly everybody” – but certainly something everybody should be aware is happening because both times there were people who’d already accepted the Friend request of the cloned account – that’s people who the cloner could now see everything they only share with friends.  I really would suggest that everybody does a quick search for every name that a friend request comes from to make sure that they are not already a friend with that person – the real person – and also to look critically at the person’s profile to see if they look genuine.

If I see something that I think is a bit dodgy on FB I look on places like the Hoax-Slayer FB Page, Hoax-Slayer website, Facecrooks FB Page, etc., etc. to see if they have any information.

I’m left wondering how copying and posting a – None of my FB Friends, only my true friends, I know which friends … known somebody… hero who’s fought and won … to raise awareness of cancer – etc., etc., – is actually suppose to raise awareness?  There’s never any information about cancer in there.  No information about anything you should be aware of, such as a symptom that should be looked out for and taken seriously for a particular type of cancer.  How about not mindlessly copying things that others have posted and posting a link to somewhere with usefull information, such as Cancer Research UK, where people can not only learn about cancer, the research currently being done, but also donate to help the fight against cancer.

And then we get to another scam – the 1 like = a prayer posts.  I’m sorry, but I think this is plain stupid, on top of often being scams.  I’m a great believer in prayer.  And do offer up a quiet prayer for people in my online circle of friends who are suffering, especially those who explain their circumstances and ask for prayers to be made on their behalf or on behalf of friends or family. But I fail to see how likeing a post on FB would equate to a prayer.  Jesus himself said that you should go and pray to God in the quiet, not on the corner of the street – and to my mind being seen likeing something on FB, without thought or any real prayer made, (the – it costs me nothing and it can’t do any harm – mentality) is a modern version of praying on the corner of the street – only not just your own street but every street in the world.  And these posts are also more likely than not to be scams – aimed at getting likes for a page so that it is worth more to scammers.  Start by reading about one of the old ‘Prayers for Likes‘, then have a read of “Facebook Like-Farming Scams“, and then have a look at a list of some of the different like farming types of scams.

CARD:

I printed the digital stamp – Hoppy Frog on Lily Pad – onto 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock and coloured him and his reflection in using ProMarkers.  I then took a Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen and went all over what would be the water and the reflection. The sparkle shows up a bit in this photo I took before making up the card.

HoppyFrogColoured

This was stuck to the front of a 5″ square base card.  I then took a sheet of green Adorable Scoreable cardstock and cut it to 5″ hight along leaving a long strip from the front of the A4 sheet.  I cut a 4″ square out of the centre of the strip Leaving 5″ in the centre I scored on both sides and then at 1cm, 2cm, and cut at 3cm out.  These scores were folded, concertina style, and the last flap on both sides were stuck with super sticky tape to both sides of the card front to give a concertina sided frame.  I took some clear beading wire, knotted the bottom, added a green glass pearl, knotted a bit further up and added another bead, knotted a bit further up again and added another bead, and finished with a knot a bit above the third bead. I did this several times until I had 6 strings.  Taking three of these together I used sticky tape to attach them to the inside of the frame to one side of Hoppy.  I did the same the other side.

DSCF4137Once I know whether it will be for a boy or a girl I may add some more embelishments, I’m thinking perhaps a worm or a fly if it’s for a boy, or some blossom on the frame if it will be snet to a girl.  What do you think?

Some Colouring In

An Update, Some Musings and Some Colouring In

-oOo-

I’m not big on colouring in just for the sake of colouring in.  I like to be able to do something with what I’ve coloured.  Which is why I like digi-stamps so much – ones that lend themselves to putting on card fronts after colouring in.  But during the middle of last year at some point my mother passed me one of her crossword magazines that had a colouring insert and said that one of the images was for a competition.  So I got on with colouring in the image and took a photo before I posted it off.  It’s not perfect of course, because it was coloured mostly on my side in bed, but not too bad. Pity that I didn’t make a note of what type and colours of markers I used.

The other bits of colouring I’ve got to show you today are from Hot Off The Press “… For Colorists” books.  These will be made into something, probably a card, in due course.  I have made a note of the type of colouring medium used this time, but not the individual colours.

.

COLOURING IN:

This was my colouring in entry.  I actually forgot to go online to have a look at the dozen or so that were chosen for the online vote.  Think I was feeling too poorly at that time to think about competition entries and winners.

Colouring In 02

On the 9th I showed you a Mother’s Day card I’d made using one image from a Hot Off The Press “… For Colorists” book.  Well the next two images are two more I’ve coloured in from two different “… For Colorists” books. I actually bought a set of four together so you will probably see more of them appear in my crafting over the next few months.

I’ve not made these into cards yet, but I’ll show you what I make with them in due course.  I don’t have a specific project in mind yet, I just wanted to see how they’d turn out before I decided.  Especially the Steampunk one, as I’m not really a big fan of steampunk and was challenging myself a bit with the first of these two.  I wouldn’t even have bought the book if it hadn’t been in the set of four and I loved the images in the other three.

From the Hot Off The Press “Steampunk For Colorists”

Steampunk for Colourists 01 01I’ve got as far as deciding that I will cut it out around the inner panel, so haven’t coloured in the outside corner pieces.  The Heart and wings are coloured in using ProMarkers and the rest using Nuvo markers, some of the elements using the metalic Nuvo markers.

This second one is from the “Butterflies For Colorists”.

Buterflies for Colourists 01 01Got a bit of a blog on the right hand side somehow, but not to worry as I’ll cut it out to the black line and it will be fine.  This one is coloured in all in Spectrum Sparkle pens from the Spring/Summer set.  It looks seriously sparkly in real life but I simply can’t get the sparkle to show in photos.  Perhaps I’ll try a very angled photo once I get it made up into some creation to see if the sparkle will show up then.  Or perhaps shine a torch or something at an angle at it when taking a photograph.
