An Update and Some Colouring In

-oOo-

Not a big post from me today.  Just a couple of mother’s day cards.  One I made to give myself to my mother, and the other I made for my niece to give to her mother but she went home without it, so my other sister who came to stay over the weekend appropriated it to also give to Mam.

.

Cards:

This was the card I gave Mam myself.  The image is one out of a little book from Hot Off The Press called “Floral Garden For Colourists”.  And the company do give permission for images you colour in to be used on cards “for personal use or to sell for pin money”, which is good to know because some colouring book companies don’t – so always check the terms of the company who owns the copyright.

I actually coloured the whole image panel in using Spectrum Sparkle pens from the Spring/Summer pack.  The dimensional butterfly is also from the Floral Garden colouring book, as was a tag I used on the inside.  I also brushed the clear Spectrum Sparkle pen over the floral embelishments.  Unfortunately non of it has been captured in the photos, because the whole thing is very sparkly when moved in the light.

The card is simply a 7″ square ready prepared white base card.  The flowers and the background paper s used in the central strip were printed out from a My Craft Studio/Tattered Lace CD-ROM and cut out with different, co-ordinating, Tattered Lace “Floral Layers” dies.

I used the Tonic funky glue pen to glue everything in place.

The second card was very plain, and not fussy, at the request of my niece, because my sister doesn’t like dimensional and glittery things.  Nither does my other sister who appropriated the card.  It’s simply an image from one of the Hunkydory Little Books – think it was the 2nd flowers one – stuck onto one of the Hunkydory mirror layers and mounted on a plain white A5 card.

Only one photo of this –

An Update and Some Crochet

-oOo-

In this post I’ll be showing you a batch of small crocheted items I worked on very early this year.  I’d shown you one of the hats a few weeks ago – here – and today I’ve got a second hat I made for another nephew, and a crocheted collar I made for myself – to keep my neck warm under the edge of a coat or knitted woolly jacket.d

.

CROCHET:

Both these items were made using the same type of yarn, 2 balls per project, but using different colours.

This hat was for a nephew.  He actually prefers to ware it with the fluffy bobbles inside and with just the front edge turned up to show some of them.  Says it keeps his head warmer like that.

This is my warming collar.  I had thought of doing it in the round but decided that I didn’t want the bother of pulling it on over my head so did it to cross in the front with a button to hold it in place.

Although we’d love to see Dragons Lair Designs items on your creation, you may ENTER the challenge using ANY MATERIAL you wish as long as you clearly follow the set theme. You may enter the challenge with ONE entry per month. So why not consider joining in with us this month – go to the challenge blog and have a look at the rules and the inspiration created by my fellow Design Team members.

For March we have a “bingo” grid for crafters to choose any three items in a straight line to use on their crafted creations.

Here’s the grid –

Bingo Grid Challenge Suggestion

Please join in and let us see what creation you come up with on the theme.

.

CREATION:

I decided on the top row and made my creation using Pink, Anything From Dragons Lair Designs, and Parchment.

This is what I produced –

Gwyneth 03

Dragons Lair Designs Item:

Consumables:

  • 1 x pre cut and scored 9″ square card
  • 1 x 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
  • 1 x Sheet of Parchment
  • 2 x Pale Green Shades of Adorable Scoreable cardstock.
  • ProMarkers in colours: Tan, Tawny Owl, Summer Sun, Apple Cider, Pastel Pink, Chestnut
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • Tonic Pearl Drops

Equipment:

  • Tattered Lace Die Set
  • Baby Blue Die Cutting Machine
  • Parchment Lace Parchment Grid
  • Parchment Embossing and Piearcing Tool
  • Hougie Board
  • Trimmer
  • Fine scissors – parchment cutting

Method:

I started by using the grid from the latest Parchment Lace magazine to piearce and emboss the parchment with the bird house design and cut it out.

I printed the finch onto white cardstock and then coloured it in and cut it out.

The flowers and branches were die cut out of the waste white cardstock after cutting out the finch, and these were then coloured in with ProMarkers.

For the base card I scored the very palest green cardstock and cut it to make a square card.  The next green cardstock was then cut smaller than the card front to make a mat.  I went round the base card and mat using the Chestnut coloured ProMarker.  I used glue gel for all the sticking down, shaping the bird, flowers and foliage before sticking down.

The parchment bird house was glued behind where I inteded to put the bird and die-cuts so that none of the glue is visible.

I finished off with the pearl drops.

Here are a couple more photos of the card –

I hope you like my card and that you will join us in the Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog this month.

Design Team Creation

-oOo-

It’s time for another inspiration post from me on the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog“. This is more or less what I posted over on that blog –

For our March posts every Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog Design Team member will be working with the wonderful new collection “Elves” that was launched in the Dragons Lair Designs Store Yesterday.

This collection has very much a vintage feel to it. Although the elves are great for some occasions, they may not go with everything you want to do – but the beauty of the collection is that it contains backgrounds and elements that don’t show the elves as well (Have a look at the digital-scrapbook layout I did for the collection launch to see a creation that doesn’t show the Elves).  So multiple styles of items can be made with different looks from this one collection.

As my first piece with the collection didn’t use the elements that showed the Elves I decided that I needed to use them for this Inspiration Blog post.  So I decided to make a card.

In fact, I got a bit carried away and made 3 different cards. Unfortunately the photograph for one of them isn’t good – despite taking more than once – but it shows you an idea for a layout.

.

These are what I used:

Consumables:

  • Black 7″ square card; White 7″ square card; A4 sheet of 300gsm cardstock; Sheet of Adorable Scoreable cardstock in a toneing colour.  Roller glue tape pen; 1mm deep double sided foam tape; Foiling glue; Gold touch senseitive foil; Zig Glue Pen; Glue Gel; Butterfly Charm; Burnt Sienna ProMarker;

Equipment:

  • Scissors; Hougie Board

Cards & Method:

I started by printing out various backgrounds and elements from the collection and then cutting them out.

For this 1st card I took one elves topper and two backgrounds from the collection and cut them to size.  The topper was stuck to a piece of Adorable Scoreable cardstock and cut to leave a small margin. The background panels were distressed around the edges with a scissors edge.

I dabbed some foil glue in various places on the base card and on the panels and applied foil.  I then used my roller glue tape pen to attach the backgrounds and foam tape to attach the matted topper.

Elves 01 02 Angled view of card.

Elves 01 01

After cutting out a background to fit my base card I started off by attaching this.  Then I added the torn edge and ribbon element.  I decided to only use the base image and two layers of the pyramid topper and I lightly went around these two layers with my scissors edge to roughen them up a bit so that they would stand out a bit on the card.  The bottom layer was attached using a roller glue tape pen and the two layers using 1mm deep foam tape.  I then used a Zig glue pen to add dots in various places on the paper ribbon and to write Penblwydd Hapus (which is Welsh for Happy Birthday) to the bottom of the card.  Onto these glued areas I pressed a sheet of touch sensitve foil.  It actually turned out smoother than I wanted so I then scratched the foiled area to distress it a bit, which I felt was more in keeping with the look of the image and backgrounds.

Elves 02 05 Elves 02 02 Elves 02 01

For this last card, in the style of a “screen” that opens out and stands in a zigzag fashion, was made using three of the bookmarks on the bookmark sheet.

These were again stuck to a sheet of Adorable Scoreable and trimmed to leave a very small margin.

Taking the width of these matted bookmarks into account I used my Hougie Board to score a sheet of white cardstock, trimmed the extra off and folded to make my screen card.  I also cut a smaller panel from the Adorable Scoreable, but turning it back to front, to make a panel where the greeting can be written.  Once I had stuck all the matted panels onto the base card using my roller glue tape pen I used the ProMarker to go around adding faux stitching.

I finished off by colouring over the butterfly charm using the same ProMarker, because it wass too silver looking for this card, and then stuck it to the front of the card using glue gel.

The closed card.

A Scrapbook Layout

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

Today a new collection is being launched in the Dragons Lair Designs store. It is called “Elves”.

Here’s a promo shot for the collection

Whole collection Promo Shot

As you can see it has a very vintage feel, and the little elves have a vintage look as well.

But even though it is called Elves, you will notice that there is not an elf in sight in the creation I’ve got to show you today, but if you go to the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog you will see the elves on several of my fellow design team members creations.

I did give people a sneaky peak of part of this around Facebook a few days ago, but here’s the whole thing –

It’s a digital scrapbook layout.

Arthur a Gwyneth C

I will be printing it out at around 8″ square as well.  My mother gets printouts of my digital layouts to keep in her collection.

The name Gwyneth was to be found on both sides of the family when I was born.  This couple are my grandmother’s brother and his first wife.  She’d died before I was born so I never met her.  I’ve no idea who took this photo (so can’t ask permission to use it), or when, but the photo must be over 60 years old because the note I’ve got in my family tree says she died 60 years ago this month.

Oh!  Forgot to say.  There’s a discount in the store for a couple of weeks on this new collection, and if you choose to buy the whole collection you’ll get an extra item that can’t be bought individually.
