Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

Today I’ve got a quick digital scrapbook page to show you.

I’m giving you a sneaky peak of a few items from the new “Butterfly Garden” collection that will be launched in the Dragons Lair Designs online store on the 1st May.

With the title of “Butterfly Garden” I just had to go back through some photos of our garden from years past and for this layout I selected three photos from 2003.

I worked in My Craft Studio Elite to put everything together.  There are way more items than I’ve used in the collection, but I didn’t want to show everything in one go now, did I?

Butterfly Garden bClick on the photo of my layout to see it bigger.

And that is it from me for today. Remember the 1st May for the new collection launch!

On the 20th  the Dragons Lair Designs designer, Janette Padley, started a new challenge in the  Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group by giving us all free access to the same mini kit to work with.  The kit she’s given to the Fan Group members who want to take part in this month’s layout challenge is called “Floral Glory”.

Any Fan Group member, no matter if a long time member or just joining during this month, can collect the kit and then upload a photo of something they’ve made with items from the collection (digital, paper, or hybrid crafting based) into the relevant album she’s set up, before the end of the challenge.  Details are all in the FB event she’s set up for the challenge.

Anybody who takes part gets a 20% Discount Voucher to the Dragons Lair Designs online store, and the winner picked by RNG will get her newest kit.

What are you waiting for – come join us in the DLD Fan Group and get involved.

Here’s a layout that I made using the mini kit she gave free for the challenge starting April 20th.

FloralGlory 01

DETAILS:

I took the items from the free digital kit “Floral Glory” into My Craft Studio Elite software, together with aphoto I’d taken of a flowering almond tree in bloom in our garden a few years ago.  I then just played around with size, layers, positions, until I was happy with the layout.  I then saved the design, then in IrfanView I cropped the final layout, re-sized it for uploading and added the watermark.

Monochromatic Vintage Lady Card

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

-oOo-

Today I’ve got a card to show you.

Yesterday, in her Sunday Showcase on the Dragons lair Designs Inspiration Blog, designer Janette Padley gave a digital stamp along with some backgrounds as a mini collection FREEBIE!

This week I decided to go with just using the digi-stamp, and as I’ve made several digital scrapbook layouts with the freebies lately I decided to go with a card this time.

Vintage Lady 03In fact, I decided on a monochromatic card.

.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • Scissors

Consumables:

  • 250gsm White super smooth cardstock.
  • White, pre-scored base card.
  • Assorted greys and black Nuvo alcohol marker and Nuvo silver marker
  • Assortment of bits of backgrounds, etc., from my box of bits.

Method:

Having decided to go monochromatic this time I searched through a tray of bits I’ve got left over from previous projects and fished out some black cardstock and a couple of grey tone background patterns and some paper rikrac ribbon.

I resized the digi-stamp to the required size and printed it before colouring it in with various grey and black alcohol markers.  I wanted a bit of silver on the image, although I don’t think it shows up well in the photo, but didn’t want it to completely cover the detail of the flourishes on the frame, so, I dotted silver on between the details and then went over it with one of the grey markers.  This has given it a bit of a distressed silver look.  I also used the silver for the lady’s necklace and ring.

Vintage Lady 04

After colouring in I cut out the digi-stamp image.

I then cut up the pieces I’d chosen to use to the required sizes and stuck everything together using quick dry glue.

Vintage Lady 01

Dragons Lair Designs is giving a freebie with the Sunday Showcase each week, as well as a chance to win something for showing us your creation using anything DLD (even if you use the freebie given any week), so remember to drop into the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog next Sunday to collect your freebie.

Arm Knitting and Some Crochet

An Update, Arm Knitting and Some Crochet

-oOo-

I’m back with some scarves.  I use to do a lot of knitting but working two needles and holding up the weight of a garment to manouver the knitting needles became too much for me with my arms being affected by my health issues, so I started doing some crocheted items.  Less of a problem with loosing stitches as of course only working with one stitch at a time, not a whole knitting needle of stitches that have the habit of coming off if I have to put my arms down mid row.  And it is also easier to work with the growing piece of crochet resting more on my lap, so less weight to contend with.  I can’t manage consistent tension to do any real garments, but other things, like hats, scarves, blankets, bags, etc., I do manage.

I have got a very large granny square blanket on the go, and have had it on the go for a couple of years.  It is now as tall as my youngest nephew, if not a bit taller – and as it’s a square the same width.  I have to work on that while in an armchair in the sitting room to have the weight spread across the arms of the chair. That is my large, ongoing, project.  But while working on that I’ve also been making smaller items.

What I’ve got to show you today are not exactly traditional scarves because of the yarn I’ve used for two of them, but I hope you like them.

.

ARM KNITTING:

Have you ever tried arm knitting.  I got a few rolls of this “Yarn”

Scarf 104 03 Scarf 104 04It is like a very wide piece of knitted yarn that you can then work with.

For this first piece I did some arm knitting – casting on three stitches and using my arms as “knitting needles”. One skein of yarn makes one scarf.

Scarf 104 01

This photo was taken in more of a shaddow and so shows the loops of the chain a bit better.

Scarf 104 02With the loops on my arms, and sat in bed watching TV, I could just pull a few loops, knitting from one side to the other, and then put my arms down to rest, without the stitches falling off past my tumbs sticking out, and the whole thing didn’t take me an hour to make.

.

CROCHET:

For this scarf I used the same yarn but decided to crochet into the side of the yarn.  By picking up a piece of the side of the wide ribbon yarn, then scooping up another piece onto the crochet hook, then another, before taking the last loop through the first two, it started gathering up the edge of the wide ribbon yarn and gave the other edge a ruffled look.

Scarf 103 01 Scarf 103 02By continuing to pick up two loop fulls of the ribbon yarn edge and taking the last through all the way along the edge of the yarn the whole lot became ruffled, and tended to twirl round on itself, making an unusual type of scarff.

.

This next scarf is a more traditional crochet item.  Made using treble stitches throughout.

Here’s a closeup of the stitches and edge.

Scarf 04 01

Here’s the whole scarf.

Scarf 04 02

I’ve tried to spread the scarf a bit more out for this photo to give you a better idea of the length.

Scarf 04 04I’m going to have to take a photo of the yarn ball band with yarn content and details at a later date and put it in because I forgot to do it the same time as photographing the scarf itself.

Datcu a Mamgu – Digital Layout

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

-oOo-

Today I’ve got a very quick digital scrapbook layout to show you.

It’s made using an old photo of one set of my grandparents from the family album, and elements from a mini kit that was given as a freebie in yesterday’s Sunday Showcase on the Dragons lair Designs Inspiration Blog.

The backgrounds in the collection have a lovely textured look, and the colours are lovely.

Sorbet b.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Software
  • IrfanView Software

Method:

As usual I did the layout in My Craft Studio and final sizing, cropping and watermark in IrfanView.  A bit of resizing, a bit of flipping of some elements, and making multiples of the flowers is all it took.

And that’s it. One Quick Layout. Although, as I’ve said before about previous digital scrapbook layouts I’ve put together, I will print it out as my mother likes to keep a collection of printouts of the layouts I’ve made.

Some Jewellery

-oOo-

I’m back with three very different makes. The first is one of the creations I made last year but never got the strength to blog at the time, and the other two are this year’s makes. Hope you like them.  If you’ve got the time leave me a comment to say what you think.  Thank you.

.

JEWELLERY:

This is a broach I made for myself last year. The stone is Jasper.  I did some very simple soutach together with some wire work coils.  The photo is appearing a bit green on my screen but it isn’t in real life.

Broach 01 01

This is a glasses holder I made for my mother.  Her old one had broken.  The first time it was at the end where the glasses are attached so I was able to repair it with findings from my stash, but this time it was the jewellery wire that had broken, and I decided it was time to make her a new one.  This is made using a bag of assorted purple seed beads.

GlassesChain 01 03Close-up of the beads.

GlassesChain 01 02

This is a bangle – made using the Kleshna bangle making loom and yarn made from sari silk cuttoffs.

Bangle02 02

When he saw this my nephew said it looked very “celtic” – in other words, ethnic or might have been the type of thing worn in olden times.

Bangle02 03

Bangle02 04

Three completely different makes I’m sure you’ll agree.

Music Themed Easel Card

 Posted by at 08:00 am
Apr 132016

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

Today’s card was made for a challenge over on the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group.

Each month we get given a digi stamp image for free to work with and we need to get a photo of what we make with the image uploaded to an album in the group by the end of that month.

This month we were given a frame to work with.  Which of course let it open to any Fan Group member who wanted to take part to decide what they’d use the frame for.

I chose to make a music themed easel card using a couple of other digi-stamps from the Dragons Lair Designs online store with the frame.

-oOo-

FrameCard 02

.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

  • Flower Design Frame – Freebie for any Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group member who wants to take part in the challenge.
  • Yoo Hoo Rocks
  • Cat with Music – previous freebie from Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group challenge.

Equipment:

  • Paper trimmer
  • Hougie Board
  • Scissors
  • Nuvo alcohol markers

Consumables:

  • Quick grab wet glue
  • 1mm deep, double sided foam tape
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • A4 sheet of 250gsm super smooth white cardstock
  • A4 sheet of patterned cardstock
  • Piece of sewing cotton

Method:

I put all three digi-stamps onto a single A4 working area and printed them out at the size I required.  I then coloured them all in using Nuvo alcohol marker pens before cutting them out.

Icouldn’t hope to cut out the thin lines of the whiskers and the wires from the cat’s MP3 player to his earphones, so I took a piece of sewing thread and used a needle to put it through the cardstock at the right places.

I scored the cardstock at 6″ and 3″ and put the frame topper corner to corner along the 3″ line and marked the width.  I then cut the card to this width before folding along the score lines.  The piece trimmed off was further trimmed to fit on the inside as a stopper, holding it in place with foam tape.

I used wet glue to attach half the frame to the folded over area of the card front and then used glue gel to attach the two other images to the front of the frame.

FrameCard 01You can just about see the thread on the cat from his MP3 player in this photo if you click and make it larger.

-oOo-

If any of you want to join in this fun challenge then please do join the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group and do so.  There are a couple of other challenges currently running in the group as well.

And please also join our “Anything Goes” challenge over on the Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog.

-oOo-

And that is it from me for today. I hope that you will take advantage of the DLD Freebie and use it to make something that you connect up to the Sunday Showcase for us all to see. You never know, you could be the lucky one who wins more DLD goodies in the draw.

Quick Scrapbook Layout – Double

 Posted by at 08:00 am
Apr 112016

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

I’m afraid that I sometimes forget to say it, but I want you all to know that I do appreciate all your visits, and especially your comments both on my blog, and the linkes and comments on Facebook.

Janette Padley, the designer at Dragons Lair Designs, has started a weekly “Sunday Showcase” over on the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog a few weeks ago.

It is a chance for everybody to link up anything they’ve made using Dragons Lair Designs items.  Usually it’s just Design Team members who’s work is seen regularly on the blog, but by linking up their creations anybody can be a part of the Sunday Showcase – and even better, at the end of the week, somebody get’s randomly chosen to receive an item from the DLD store, so even more reason to come and show us your DLD makes.

It’s also a chance to get a DLD FREEBIE – because Janette is putting in a link to a Dragons Lair Designs freebie in each Sunday Showcase post.  And of course these could be used to join in the showcase linkup if you don’t already have something DLD in your digital library.

-oOo-

Today I’ve got a quick digital scrapbook layout to show you – in fact it’s a double layout.

I hunted out photos of my youngest nephews when they were about the same age for this one.

Double PJ Party QPb.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

  • “PJ Party Quick Page” – Freebie with Sunday Showcase on Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog yesterday
  • Background from “Think Spring” mini kit – Freebie with Sunday Showcase on Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog post of 20th March.

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Software
  • IrfanView Software

Method:

This is a super quick digital layout because I used a “Quick Page” design so didn’t have to worry about placing the background, frame, ribbon, etc.

I also took The green background from the previous freebie and the quick page from yesterday’s freebie into the My Craft Studio Software.  I made a 2nd copy of the quick page and then flipped it.  With my working area at A4 landscape I put the background behind and resized the quick page so that they fitted on side by side across the middle.  I then hunted out and re-sized the two baby photos.  I then placed them behind the quick page, saved, and finaly cropped and watermarked in IrfanView.

-oOo-

And that is it from me for today. I hope that you will take advantage of the DLD Freebie and use it to make something that you connect up to the Sunday Showcase for us all to see.  You never know, you could be the lucky one who wins more DLD goodies in the draw.

Today I’ve got a quick digital scrapbook layout to show you.

It’s made using one of my photos and an assortment of items from the new Artistic Expressions collection that launched in the Dragons Lair Designs store on the 1st.

Y Wal Layout“Y Wal” is Welsh for “The Wall”.  It’s a section of the wal in our front passage that we hung a piece of wall paper from the top to the bottom and allowed my niece and nephews to stick their creations to, whether made here or brought home from school for us to keep.

Here’s a closer look for you.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Software
  • IrfanView Software

Method:

I simply took a copy of the photo, together with an assortment of items from the Artistic Expressions collection, into My Craft Studio.  I chose a square item and made it fill the width of my working area so that my finished layout would be square, and worked on that area building up my layout.  After saving it as a .jpg I took it into IrfanView to crop, re-size, and add my digital watermark (I’ve got it set up in that software for when I adjust and watermark photos I’ve taken so easier to work than re-set one up in My Craft Studio).

And that’s it.  One Quick Layout.  Although I will print it out as my mother likes to keep a collection of printouts of the layouts I’ve made.

Don’t forget that there’s a discount in the store for a couple of weeks on this new collection, and if you choose to buy the whole collection you’ll get an extra item that can’t be bought individually.

And that is it from me for today. I hope my little creations will inspire you to visit the Dragons Lair Designs store and have a play with some of the digital downloads available to buy yourself.

Over on the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group we have lots of activities throughout the month.  One of them is a Head to Head where both Design Team members and any other group member who wants to become involved use the same Dragons Lair Design digital download to make their creation. It runs from the 1st to the end of the month so plenty of time for everybody to have a think and get involved.

This is an activity where those who take part need to buy the collection being worked with if they don’t already have it in their digital library – but – one person who takes part is chosen by a Random Number Generator to receive the collection kit for the following month free.

It’s so interesting to see the different makes side by side in the Head to Head gallery – so much variety in the makes.

So why not join us in the Fan Group and have a go – or just join to be inspired by the creations others have made.

My Creation:

Those of you who vist my posts regularly will know that I very rarely make things with English writing on them, making cards with either Welsh or no greetings mostly.  In fact, I just couldn’t get any inspiration for a Head to Head make last month which was based on English word definitions.  So this month I thought I’d challenge myself to come up with something with some English wording on.

This is what I came up with –

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Software
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Crop-a-Dial
  • Paper Trimmer

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
  • Black cardstock
  • Two colours of pearlescent cardstock
  • Length of yarn
  • Eyeletts
  • Quick grab wet glue

Method:

As the Zoodles collection is centered around a dog I went online to look for a quote that would go with it, looking for one that was attributed to a person long dead.

I took items from the collection into My Craft Studio Elite and played around with the layout, adding in the quotation, until I was happy with the panel I created.

This was printed and then cut out.  I then cut the pieces of coloured cardstock to be a little larger each time and stuck the matting and layering together, finishing off with the quotation panel.

I used my Crop-a-Dial to make two holes and to set the two eyelets before I twisted the yarn to make a “rope” hanging cord which I tied on.
