It’s time for me to show you another DT inspiration piece as today we see the start of a new challenge on the “Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog“.

DLD Challenge BadgeDLD DT BadgeEach ”Dragons Lair Designs Challenge” goes live the first Friday of the month with a new theme each time. The winner will get picked by “Random” so that it is fair for all levels of crafters. The winner gets a prize, as well as a badge for their blog, and the winning entry will also be highlighted on the challenge blog the following month. Although we’d love to see Dragons Lair Designs items on your creation, you may ENTER the challenge using ANY MATERIAL you wish as long as you clearly follow the set theme. You may enter the challenge with ONE entry per month. So why not consider joining in with us this month – go to the challenge blog and have a look at the rules and the inspiration created by my fellow Design Team members.

The theme for September is “Books and/or Paper“.  There are so many different directions you can go for this theme – perhaps you are into book folding, or perhaps you are into desiging your own background papers, or you may even want to make a card with books and papers, etc., on to give to a youngster heading off to a new school or college.  So many ideas to play with.  I can’t wait to see what everybody comes upwith this month.

Please join in and let us see your crafted creation.

CREATION:

This summer my father not only celebrated his 85th birthday, but he also had his autobiography published, so I decided that an Open Book Card would be a suitable birthday card for him this time. And, of course, an Open Book card is a card style that’s suitable for the DLD Challenge as well, so I killed two birds with one stone this time.

Dragons Lair Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite software
  • Tattered Lace Open Book Dies
  • Scissors
  • Joy Cutting and Embossing Machine

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • Tonic Funky Glue
  • Matt Silver Cardstock

Method:

I started off by taking several items from the DLD collection I’d chosen, together with a photo of my father when he was our town mayor, into the My Craft Studio software.  I played around with sizes and positions of the picture in a frame element from the collection, and also the greeting for the card.

Once I was happy with what I’d got I printed everything out and started cutting everything out.  I used one of the the smaller book shapes from the die set for the greetings, then drew around the outside of them onto white cardstock and cut them out to give a mat a slight bit bigger for each and sticking them together.  I used a series of the larger book dies for the main card shape.  I just cut out the frame and the “brad” elements with scissors.

I shaped all the “book page” layers over the side of a table before sticking them all together, and I used glue gel for dimension for adding the elements at the end.

This is a very dimensional card and I enclosed a wooden stand with it when I gave it.

BookCard 01 03I think that these pictures show how dimensional I made the card and embelishments.

I hope you like what you’ve seen and read – You should find a box below where you can leave a comment if you feel like it, but due to the fact that, like many I’m sure, I’ve had some problems with Spam/advertising posts that are absolutely nothing to do with the content of my blog, I now moderate all comments before they go live. Genuine comments will go live when I’ve checked through the list – usually a couple of times a day.)
