A Sympathy Card

A Sympathy Card

This week an elderly gentleman from our neighbourhood died and I wanted to send a hand made card to his family. The question was – what to put on it.

He had been so very good calling here several times a week when my father was ill before Dad passed away last year. Even when Dad was in hospital he’d call just to ask how Dad was.

They were both part of a crowd of men going on in years who use to sit at the same table at the Coffee Morning in town every Saturday morning for quite some time.  The table was nicknamed ‘The Last Of The Summer Wine’ table, so they decided to take part in last year’s town carnival as characters from that TV show, ropeing in a few others to dress up with them on a float. Dad was in too much pain to go by that time, but his friend did win a prize for the best pair, with him dressed as Compo and a friend’s daughter as Nora.

Such a character.

So I wanted a special card, but just couldn’t decide what to put on it.  I had several kits, images, different card bases, etc., out, and looked at some of my digital collection as well, taking ages thinking about it, but in the end I decided to go for a floral image from a Hunkydory filigree collection.

I decided to keep it minimal and not add anything other than a peel-off greeting.

Yn Meddwl Amdanoch is Welsh for Thinking About You.

I like the inserts that came as part of the collection because it had no greeting inside that I’d have to cover before adding my own. Again I chose just a simple peel-off.

Gyda Chydymdeimlad means With Sympathy.

I really do need to go through my stash and make up a few different styles of sympathy cards ready for when there is need of them. I have an assortment of other card types ready if a quick card is needed, but only a very small number of sympathy ones, so keep an eye out for another sympathy card blog post in the future – if I manage to get myself that organised.
