More Screen Printing
On my post of the 2nd – here – I showed you how I’d added some details to the pockets of my new gardening shirt by screen printing a floral wreath on one pocket and my initial on the other. Well, on the same day I screen printed those, I also screen printed a small mumber of other things.
Firstly I printed the same Floral Wreath onto cardstock in red. Neither was a big sucess as the first one was slightly over the edge so I must have moved the cardstock. The second was smudged.
So I decided to wash it off before printing again in black. Unfortunately the tape over the English wording came off and I forgot to re-tape, so I’ve got words on the prints that I didn’t want.
So I gave up on that screen and put it to wash again while I went on to another screen called Plumage and Foliage.
I wanted to screen print this onto a board mounted canvas, but that was too thick to alow the Screen Sensation framework to close properly. I therefore just taped the screen onto the frame in the usual manner but didn’t insert this into the Screen Sensation framework. I just put it in place over my canvas and held it in place with one hand while using the other to pull Copper Screen Sensation Ink over it.
And it worked!
I then put the screen into the main framework and did another print onto 280gsm cardstock.
As I had my small, travel, iron out to heat set the ink on my shirt so that it can go in the wash I did the same for all these other prints – I did a test with the iron on a corner of the canvas before houng all over just to make sure it was OK with heat.
By this time I was exhausted and couldn’t think of doing any more printing, so the T-shirts, etc., I’ve got in ready will have to wait for another day.
So now it’s just a case of what I’m going to do with these screen prints.
Well I’ve just got one ready to show you today – the one of the peacock screen printed on cardstock.
Back at the start of April I told you about the calender I bought for my Mother, and I said I was adding some sort of picture to each month as we came to it. You can see the post – here – if you missed it.
Well for May I decided to quickly colour up the peacock. I’m not so good at painting, but this time I decided to give it a go. I’d just got in some Dinky Inkies Pearl Reinker Multibuy, and, because of the different effect of these I thought that they would suit the image. Only problem I had was no suitable blue colour, so I reached for my Gansai Tambi, Blue Gem colour. And while I had those out I picked the purple colour from the same set. Every other colour used is a Dinky Inky.
I did go online to have a look at some photos of peacocks, but there’s no way I could get near to the beauty of a real peacock with its miriad of subtle, shimmering, colours, so I just went with the colours I’d got.
It doesn’t look too bad, and Mam is quite pleased with her May picture.
In some lights it looks quite flat.
But, because of the types of mediums I’d used, in other lights you can see the sparkle in some areas and the irridecense on others.
It is quite lovely when the light hits it at some angles.
So that’s it for today. I’ll show you how I get on with makeing something with my other screen prints in the future.
