My “Big” Work In Progress – Part 6

UFO Quilting – Preparing For Quilting

Today is an update on how I’m progressing with preparing my patchwork quilts ready for actually quilting them..

In my last update about this project I told you I had both patchworks sewn up and was begining to put them together ready for quilting.

I said in a previous post, about quilted cushion covers, that I’d tried using temporary fabric adhesive spray to hold everything together, rather than pining the layers together, and that it had worked well. So I went for the same method again.

Spraying a small area of backing with the temporary fabric adhesive and then pulling the wadding into place over it. Then doing another strip of spray and rowling more wadding over it until I got to the end. Then doing the same for getting the top, patchwork, layer in place. Working on the matress of the sofa bed meant I could pin through to it to keep everything in place as I worked.

This is it with all layers stuck together.

I then put a few safety pins in at the end, “just in case”. I’m not sure how long the adhesive will hold it’s tack for if I have to leave it a while before I have the time and energy to do the actual quilting.

So, one is now all together ready for quilting.

Then it was a case of starting the layering process for the next one.

And then – I spotted that I still had some thread ends not trimmed off on that one, so I’ve come to a stop until I can make sure it is tidied properly.

So, that’s how far I’ve got at the point of writing this post, but keep an eye out for more posts about how I’m getting on with this “‘Big’ Work In Progress” in the future.

Genuine comments will go live when I’ve checked through the list – usually a couple of times a day.)
