Thank you for coming over to have a look at my blog

May Calendar Page

Those of you who visit my blog regularly will know that I buy a blank calendar from Pagemill every year and give it to my mother.  I then do some sort of crafting to decorate each page for the start of each month,

You can see the January page – here! February page – here! March page – here! and april page – here!

I try and use different techniques and have a different look to each month.

This month I’ve gone for a sort of vintage look scrapbook layout, but made as a digital layout which I printed out and stuck onto my mother’s calendar.

I said in a previous post – here – that I’d been spending more time on one of my other hobbies, family history, lately, and that I’d been getting out old photographs to scan into my laptop and add into the digital version of my family tree.  Mam has also been takeing time, two or three times a week, to sit with me and go through the photos in batches.

So this month I decided to go for a layout of some of the old photos, using backgrounds from Fancy Fretwork for the main backgrounds and as panels behind each image.  As there was slight tonal difference in the photos I changed them all to complete greyscale, which made the whole thing look better and as the photos were of different sizes and orientation I decided to not try and make an even spaced layout but go a bit turned on some of them.  I chose a coloured background behind each image to lift the layout a bit, but didn’t want it too look too clean and bright so used the feature in the software to drop shaddow the frameing element.  I also added some Flourishes elements, both behind and coming a bit in front of the images to give some interest.

I made the Welsh “Mis Mai” title using tones similar to the two backgrounds used in the layout.

What I Used
  • Papermill Direct blank calendar
  • Fingerlift Tape
  • 2 sheets of 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
  • Stephanie’s Signature Collection Fancy Fretwork USB Tattered Lace
  • My Craft Studio Flourishes Volume 1
  • Microsoft Publisher software
Photos Of The May Calendar Page

I’ve not photographed the layout after sticking it on the calendar this time.  But here is the layout and the month heading piece.

  • Top left photo is where my mother was born.
  • Top centre photo is my grandmother, mother, uncle, and grandfather.
  • Top right photo is my uncle and mother in the doorway of the small cafe my grandmother ran when my parents got married.
  • Bottom left is a photo of my grandparents in 1928, before they got married.
  • Bottom centre is my grandmother as a teenager holding her violin.
  • Bottom right is my grandfather milking a cow .

This has now been printed out and stuck to my mother’s calendar.

.

I currently have a video part edited, as well as another that is part filmed, and need to write up a blog post about some cards I made, so it shouldn’t be too long before I have another blog post to show you, so please do come back in a few days to see the new content.
