Flowers – From Air Dry Clay

Assorted Flowers From Air Dry Clay

Hi and welcome to my blog (or welcome back if you’ve visited before).

I had a few sessions of making Flowers over the weekend.  Mostly Roses, but a few other filler flowers as well.

I decided to make all the flowers white, with just the rose calix and stems green.

I have collected lots of different tools for working with Air Dry Paper Clay over the years, all stored together in a bag I can just grab and take wherever in the house I want to craft any time I feel like crafting with them.  They are basicly exactly the same tools as you would use for sugar paste work for cake decorating.  They do say that you should have a separate set of tools for use with paper or mixed media crafting than you use if you are doing sugar paste work, and I do have a separate box in the utility room of a different variety of tools, though I do wonder why this instruction would be given other than to sell double the amount of kit if a person is into both types of craft.  The media I use does say it is non toxic, and the tools are suppose to be non tainting, so, I would like to know why the usual good wash in soapy water and sterilization in a baby bottle sterilising solution before drying off in the airing cupboard so that all cracks and crevices are dry, wouldn’t make the tools suitable to work with either media.  Obviously it more messy, or something that isn’t non-toxic, is being used then I wouldn’t consider it.

But in any case.  For this weekend project I wanted to make some flowers to put in the vase on the telephone table.

So some rolling out, cutting, shapeing, etc., was in order.

And this is what the rose looks like when made.

I didn’t make them all the same size.

Some of the roses even had white leaves added.

And made other flowers, such as these bell flowers to go with them.

Of course I needed more than two roses, so I kept going makeing more.

And also made a small number of different filler flowers as well.

Once I’d made a reasonable number of flowers I put them in a vase.

(The lighting and shaddows in the room give a creamy yellow colour to some of the flowers in this photo, but they really are all white.)

And then I placed the vase on the table.
