Blog Site Problems
Following an update to something in the blog content management system my blog site became “broken” at some point in the last day or so. A long list of errors were coming up at the top of the pages when I was trying to view any posts, and worse still the errors were preventing me from logging into the admin dashboard on my laptop.
Thankfully my tablet had been left already logged in so I managed to do a little investigating.
I believe that the problem occured because the theme I’ve used on my blog for a long time included a few bits of code that were no longer compatible with changes made during whatever had been updated in the system. I also found out that the theme creator had retired it and had stopped creating updates for it – which was not a problem to it running exactly as it had been for the last few years – until the other software was updated and the changed meant they stopped working together. But the fact that the theme was no longer being developed further means that it wasn’t just a case of waiting a day or two for the creator to issue an updated theme with the problem lines of code adjusted.
So I had to make a quick switch of blog theme to another one just to get the errors to go away and for me to get into the admin dashboard on my laptop.
It was more important to get a quick fix to the problem than getting a theme look I really liked for my blog in the short term.
Please bare with me as I spend some time over the next few days going through the options of different themes to pick a new, long term, look for my blog. I don’t really want to go changeing colours and style too much as I have some things running through all my online presence and want to keep it that way.
I have looked at a few themes in the last few hours, but some bring up errors similar to my old theme, some don’t have enough customisation options, and some, when I test them with my content don’t let some links in the sidebar work as they should, which is odd because the links work in some of the other themes, so I’m thinking theme problem rather than blog content problem.
As there are over 1,000 free themes to choose from before looking at paid for themes it may take me some time to find one I like that has all parts working, but hopefully the changes in blog look will not interfear with the posting of a couple of posts I have sheduled for this week or my visitors ability to see and comment on content.
I have several bits of different crafting on the go at the moment, so keep an eye out for them over the next few weeks.

You should find a box below where you can leave a Comment if you feel like it. (If you can’t see the comment box then there should be a link that says “Responses” and clicking on that will bring up the box.) Due to problems with Spam/advertising posts, I now moderate all comments before they go live. Genuine comments will go live when I’ve checked through the list – usually a couple of times a day.
Notice: I’m sure you are already aware that any comments and details you leave will be stored on the system, and those that go through moderation will be visible to the public. If you are given the option for the system to store your details so that you don’t have to fill in all your info each time you want to leave a comment then cookies will be used for this. Cookies might also be used by the system for logging visitor and return visitor numbers as well.
