My Mixed Media

Thank you for coming over to have a look at my blog

My Mixed Media

Hi and welcome to my blog (or welcome back if you’ve visited before).

What I Did

I started by collecting a few things together from the “canvas” I inteded to work on to varous other consumables and tools.

The first thing I did was spritz the canvas with water and sprinkle on an assortment of Explosion Powders at random.  I then spritzed it a bit more until I had some areas with barely any colour and some with thicker spats of the Explosion Powders.

While the canvas was drying I did the same on an A4 sheet of cardstock.  This was also left to dry.

I took a stencil with geometric shapes and using my finger I put through some of the Nuvo Mouse in three random places on the canvas.

I put the sun stencil on the centre of the A4 sheet and added the Nuvo Mouse through that with my finger as well.  Once this was dry I cut it out leaving a boundry of around a centimeter all around, cut it in half, and cut into the side to make tabs that I folded over.

I took a couple of stamps of leafy sprigs and stamped them down the right hand side of the canvas using a dark green ink pad and then picked up some lighter green ink from a pad using a brush to paint over the leaves and blend in the background already on there a bit.

I’d somehow managed to damage one of the half suns, but on the better one I made sure that all the tabs were bent in at the edge of each “sun ray” and put glue on them.  I positioned it on the canvas where I wanted it, putting the centre bottom in place first.  I then brought the sides in a bit before pressing them down so that the centre of the shape at the top came off the canvas forming a sort of pocket.  I used a point of a scissors placed inside the pocket to press each tab down firmly for the glue to grip.  I used a light touch of a fingertip to add a little metalic paint to the raised areas on the pocket.

I made up a batch of white Forever Flowerz roses.  I used three different metalic ink pads and several different colours of Dinky Inkies to brush over all but one of the roses to tint them to different colours.

With some sprigs of Forever Flowers foliage I firstly used a finger to brush on a thin layer of metalic paint and then chose one of the Explosion powders and brushed on a little bit of that using a makeup brush.

I used glue gel to attach first the foliage and then the flowers to the canvas front, placing them above the pocket and cutting off a bit of the plastic “stem” to make some go flatter to the canvas.

And that was it, finished – OK, it did take me three or four days!  I love seeing other people’s Mixed Media pieces, and am very impressed with a lot of them, but I don’t like getting super messy or laying on a lot of layers when I create things like this.  That’s the beauty of Mixed Media – everybody can mix up their media and create whatever they want to, from large sculpture to a small panel of artwork, and anything in between.

This is what it looks like in the end.

I have several bits of different crafting on the go at the moment, so keep an eye out for them over the next few weeks.
