August Colouring Challenge in DLD Fan Group

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog
A Little Bit Of Colouring

-oOo-

Those of you who visit my blog regularly will know I like to enter the colouring in challenge in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group on Facebook each month.   Each month a different digital stamp is made available to group members to request for free. Then it’s simply a case of creating something with it and uploading a photo of the creation. Not uploading a photo means no free digital stamp next month.

For the August colouring challenge the image group members can request for free is this one.

Why not join the DLD Fan Group on Facebook to get the image and join in.

Having used Chameleon Pencils to colour the image last month, and not being very happy with the result, I decided to see if I could do a job I was happier with and used the same pencils again this month..

Once I finished colouring the image I cut close around the drawn line around the head, and used a cutter to cut along the bottom and right side.  I did a little shapeing of the image with my fingers.

The base card and the background cardstock I chose are from Kanban.

I cut the background to fit inside the foiled frame on the base card and stuck it to the card with fingerlift tape.

I’ve left the card without a greeting for now as I am not sure what occasion or language it will be needed for.

I also used fingerlift tape to attach the bottom part of the image that was straight cut, and put 3mm deep double sided foam tape under the main part of the image that was shaped.

You can see the slight raise in the image achieved by the shapeing and foam tape in these photos.

So here’s my finished card.

June/July Colouring Challenge in DLD Fan Group

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog
A Little Bit Of Colouring

-oOo-

With so many members of the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group on Facebook having less time for crafting over the busy summer months it was decided to run the latest colouring challenge over two months, rather than one month, to give those who wanted to take part more time to request the free digital stamp, create something with it, and upload a photo of their creation.

For the June/July colouring challenge the image group members can request for free is this one.

Just join the DLD Fan Group on Facebook to get the image and join in.

This time I coloured in the image using Chameleon Pencils.  I don’t usually use coloured pencils and don’t think I got as good a result with these as I get with alcohol markers, but I will practice a bit more to see what effects I can get.

To make my simple card I took a pre cut, scalloped edge, base card, and, just to show that DLD images can be mixed and matched with anything in a person’s crafting stash, I cut some background papers from the “Blooming Lovely” 8″ square paper pad by The Paper Boutique.

I only used fingerlift tape to attach the various layers, to keep the card as flat as possible, and set things at a “jaunty angle”.

So here’s my finished card.

DLD Digi-stamp Challenge – Thank You Card

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

-oOo-

Just one quick card to show you today.  I hope you like it.

.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

  • Flowers and Buttons digi-stamp available free in Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group – digi-stamp to be used in any creation and photo uploaded before the end of the month with Fan Group loyalty points for all who take part and freebie from store for one entry drawn at random.

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite Software
  • Scissors

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
  • Nuvo Alcohol Markers
  • Tonic Funky Glue
  • 6″ square scalloped edge card

Method:

I took the digi-stamp into the My Craft Studio software and cropped it to separate the two parts.  Once I had both parts separately on my working area I copied and rotated the button border so that I had it four times, once in each direction.

These were then put together to make a frame and the flower digis were put in the centre.  I then grouped them and re-sized to the size I required.

I then printed out the image and coloured it in.

I cut around the outside edge of the button frame.

I went around the edge of the base card with one of the alcohol markers and attached the coloured image to the front with glue.

I finished off by writing the word “Diolch”, which is Welsh for “Thank You” on the card.

Infinite Love In Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

-oOo-

We have lots of different activities going on in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group during each month.  For one of these challenges, which runs from 20th of one month to 19th of the next, we get given a mini collection to play with and make any layout we want. This can be a digital layout, print out and make any size scrapbook page, a layout for a card front, whatever we feel like.

I’ve made a digital scrapbook layout for the May/June challenge.

This is what I came up with.

Method:

I found two pictures from my digital photo library and took them into my software, together with lots of items from the mini collection.  I then moved around, resized, added drop shaddows, etc., until I was happy with the layout.

Mixing Up The Freebies For May

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

-oOo-

Today I’m mixing freebies that came from two different areas of the Dragons Lair Designs family of sites and creating one card.

MayPole06(Not the best photo but I’ll put a couple of angled ones in later on)

.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Consumables:

  • Super Smooth White Cardstock 250gsm
  • 5″ square pre cut and scored, scalloped edge white base card
  • Nuvo alcohol markers
  • Tonic Funky Glue Pen
  • Nuvo Drops

Equipment:

  • Tattered Lace Dies from different sets
  • Baby Blue Die Cutting Machine
  • Scissors

Method:

To start with I chose one background from the freebie mini collection that came with the Sunday Showcase and printed it out as large as it would go on an A4 sheet of cardstock.

I also printed out the digi-stamp that is available in the Fan Group for this month’s colouring challenge and printed it out at the size I wanted for my project.

I used alcohol markers to colour in the digistamp before using an oval Tattered Lace die (from the oval shutter card set) to cut the image out.  I also used a plain oval die to cut out a creamy coloured cardstock from my stash to go behind it.

I used Tattered Lace small flower dies to cut several sizes of flowers from the background, as well as cutting two decorative edge borders (again the die for this came from the oval shutter card set).  A plain strip of the creamy coloured cardstock was also cut out, but using scissors this time.

I then used the glue to attach everything to my card front – I shaped the flowers a bit first using my fingers, and didn’t stick the ovals flat all the way to the edge so that it raised a bit round giving the illusion of dimension while still going into a flat envelope.

Here are more photos of my card at different angles –

Another Make From The Blog Hop Freebie

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

-oOo-

We are currently in the middle of running a Blog Hop event over in Dragons Lair Designs Land.  It will run until 8pm UK time on Tuesday, 17th May, so a whole day left to join in if you want to collect the freebie collection on offer to all hoppers.

I know I’ve already made a matching set – card, poster, and framed wall art – from the freebie collection already – which can be seen on my Blog Hop post -> Here! – but I couldn’t resist having another play with it this morning.

I went for a digital scrapbook layout this time.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite software
  • IrfanView Software

Method:

I raided my digital library of photos and picked two from a Sunday School trip quite a few years ago now.  I took these, along with items from the freebie collection, into the software and played around with layout and size until I was happy with the look of it.  As I didn’t want the wording from the quick page I used as the main element I put a panel on top of that and added the date.  I also used one of the apertures to put in the location rather than a third picture – which just shows that you can play around a lot with what you get in the collection.

Head to Head at Dragons Lair Designs

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

-oOo-

Today I’ve got a very quick digital scrapbook layout to show you that I’ve made for the Head to Head challenge being run on the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group on Facebook.

For the monthly Head to Head challenge group members all use the same kit from the store and make something with it.  Whether DT members or ordinary group members, everybody has a chance to win the kit being used the next month, as one entry is drawn by random to get whatever we will be working with next.

.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Software
  • IrfanView Software

Method:

For this digital scrapbook layout I picked an old photo from the family album.  My late grandmother and her friend/cousin in the late 1920s or early 1930s.  With the vintage look of the Florence collection I thought this was a more suitable photo to use with it than newer photos.

I used the My Craft Studio Elite software to work with the photo and kit components until I had a layout I was happy with.

I hope you like it.

We have a new challenge over on the Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog. This time we would like you to make anything, using any items (doesn’t need to be DLD items), on the theme of “Women at Work”.  From florestry to farming, from crafting to cooking, the possibilities for this challenge are really endless.

On Friday we have a Blog Hop starting on the Dragons Lair Inspiration Blog.  So please do bookmark it and call back on the day.

A Springtime Digital Scrapbook Layout

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog
From The Spring Of 2004

-oOo-

On the 20th  the Dragons Lair Designs designer, Janette Padley, started a new challenge in the  Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group by giving us all free access to the same mini kit to work with.  The kit she’s given to the Fan Group members who want to take part in this month’s layout challenge is called “Floral Glory”.

Any Fan Group member, no matter if a long time member or just joining during this month, can collect the kit and then upload a photo of something they’ve made with items from the collection (digital, paper, or hybrid crafting based) into the relevant album she’s set up, before the end of the challenge.  Details are all in the FB event she’s set up for the challenge.

Anybody who takes part gets a 20% Discount Voucher to the Dragons Lair Designs online store, and the winner picked by RNG will get her newest kit.

What are you waiting for – come join us in the DLD Fan Group and get involved.

Here’s a layout that I made using the mini kit she gave free for the challenge starting April 20th.

FloralGlory 01

DETAILS:

I took the items from the free digital kit “Floral Glory” into My Craft Studio Elite software, together with aphoto I’d taken of a flowering almond tree in bloom in our garden a few years ago.  I then just played around with size, layers, positions, until I was happy with the layout.  I then saved the design, then in IrfanView I cropped the final layout, re-sized it for uploading and added the watermark.

Music Themed Easel Card

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

Today’s card was made for a challenge over on the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group.

Each month we get given a digi stamp image for free to work with and we need to get a photo of what we make with the image uploaded to an album in the group by the end of that month.

This month we were given a frame to work with.  Which of course let it open to any Fan Group member who wanted to take part to decide what they’d use the frame for.

I chose to make a music themed easel card using a couple of other digi-stamps from the Dragons Lair Designs online store with the frame.

-oOo-

FrameCard 02

.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

  • Flower Design Frame – Freebie for any Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group member who wants to take part in the challenge.
  • Yoo Hoo Rocks
  • Cat with Music – previous freebie from Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group challenge.

Equipment:

  • Paper trimmer
  • Hougie Board
  • Scissors
  • Nuvo alcohol markers

Consumables:

  • Quick grab wet glue
  • 1mm deep, double sided foam tape
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • A4 sheet of 250gsm super smooth white cardstock
  • A4 sheet of patterned cardstock
  • Piece of sewing cotton

Method:

I put all three digi-stamps onto a single A4 working area and printed them out at the size I required.  I then coloured them all in using Nuvo alcohol marker pens before cutting them out.

Icouldn’t hope to cut out the thin lines of the whiskers and the wires from the cat’s MP3 player to his earphones, so I took a piece of sewing thread and used a needle to put it through the cardstock at the right places.

I scored the cardstock at 6″ and 3″ and put the frame topper corner to corner along the 3″ line and marked the width.  I then cut the card to this width before folding along the score lines.  The piece trimmed off was further trimmed to fit on the inside as a stopper, holding it in place with foam tape.

I used wet glue to attach half the frame to the folded over area of the card front and then used glue gel to attach the two other images to the front of the frame.

FrameCard 01You can just about see the thread on the cat from his MP3 player in this photo if you click and make it larger.

If any of you want to join in this fun challenge then please do join the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group and do so.  There are a couple of other challenges currently running in the group as well.

And please also join our “Anything Goes” challenge over on the Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog.

And that is it from me for today. I hope that you will take advantage of the DLD Freebie and use it to make something that you connect up to the Sunday Showcase for us all to see. You never know, you could be the lucky one who wins more DLD goodies in the draw.

Over on the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group we have lots of activities throughout the month.  One of them is a Head to Head where both Design Team members and any other group member who wants to become involved use the same Dragons Lair Design digital download to make their creation. It runs from the 1st to the end of the month so plenty of time for everybody to have a think and get involved.

This is an activity where those who take part need to buy the collection being worked with if they don’t already have it in their digital library – but – one person who takes part is chosen by a Random Number Generator to receive the collection kit for the following month free.

It’s so interesting to see the different makes side by side in the Head to Head gallery – so much variety in the makes.

So why not join us in the Fan Group and have a go – or just join to be inspired by the creations others have made.

My Creation:

Those of you who vist my posts regularly will know that I very rarely make things with English writing on them, making cards with either Welsh or no greetings mostly.  In fact, I just couldn’t get any inspiration for a Head to Head make last month which was based on English word definitions.  So this month I thought I’d challenge myself to come up with something with some English wording on.

This is what I came up with –

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Software
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Crop-a-Dial
  • Paper Trimmer

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
  • Black cardstock
  • Two colours of pearlescent cardstock
  • Length of yarn
  • Eyeletts
  • Quick grab wet glue

Method:

As the Zoodles collection is centered around a dog I went online to look for a quote that would go with it, looking for one that was attributed to a person long dead.

I took items from the collection into My Craft Studio Elite and played around with the layout, adding in the quotation, until I was happy with the panel I created.

This was printed and then cut out.  I then cut the pieces of coloured cardstock to be a little larger each time and stuck the matting and layering together, finishing off with the quotation panel.

I used my Crop-a-Dial to make two holes and to set the two eyelets before I twisted the yarn to make a “rope” hanging cord which I tied on.
