There are so many different directions you can go for this theme – You may choose to work on anything using the colours from within the picture, or perhaps harvest, or thanksgiving, or choose just one item from within the picture to concentrate on. So many ideas to play with. I can’t wait to see what everybody comes up with this month.

Please join in and let us see your crafted creation.

.

CREATION:

There just wasn’t enough time on the day of our thanksgiving service at the chapel for me to do everything, so I gave my 10 year old nephew a bucket full of vegetation he’d helped me cut, some fruit and veg, and asked him to make a display in the lobby while I got on with other stuff. Then I gave him my phone to photograph his creation. He even got a dustpan and brush and swept up the leaves and petals that had fallen on the floor while he was working.  He even came back with me later in the week to clear everything he’d put up before the following week’s service.

So this month I decided to use his photo of his display to make a quick digital layout using one of the Dragons Lair Designs collections to go with it.  I have printed it out as well to add to my mother’s collection of my 8″ square layouts.

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite software

Method:

I started off by taking several items from the DLD collection I’d chosen, together with a slightly cropped photo my nephew had taken into My Craft Studio.

I then used a digital cutter within the software to shape the photograph before laying everything out and resizing until I was happy with my layout.

CREATION:

I looked back to my photos from October 2015 for photos to make a digital scrapbook layout as inspiration for you this month.

Dragons Lair Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite software

Method:

I chose a “haloween” themed collection from Dragons Lair Designs for my creation this time.  I picked photos of two of my nephews dressed up in their Haloween costumes – a large black spider with 8 long legs on a giant spider’s web, and  skeleton with black hooded cape – together with one of the pumpkins that they’d carved, and used a digital cutter within the My Craft Studio software to cut them into scalloped circle shapes with black matting and layering.  I also used a digital cutter from within the software to cut a cat shape from one of the backgrounds in the digital collection.

I then had some fun laying out everything at different sizes and positions until I was happy with the  layout.  I then printed out a copy for my mother’s collection of my 8″ square layouts although it’s the digital layout that you can see in this post.

CREATION:

This summer my father not only celebrated his 85th birthday, but he also had his autobiography published, so I decided that an Open Book Card would be a suitable birthday card for him this time. And, of course, an Open Book card is a card style that’s suitable for the DLD Challenge as well, so I killed two birds with one stone this time.

Dragons Lair Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite software
  • Tattered Lace Open Book Dies
  • Scissors
  • Joy Cutting and Embossing Machine

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth white cardstock
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • Tonic Funky Glue
  • Matt Silver Cardstock

BookCard 01 01

Method:

I started off by taking several items from the DLD collection I’d chosen, together with a photo of my father when he was our town mayor, into the My Craft Studio software.  I played around with sizes and positions of the picture in a frame element from the collection, and also the greeting for the card.

Once I was happy with what I’d got I printed everything out and started cutting everything out.  I used one of the the smaller book shapes from the die set for the greetings, then drew around the outside of them onto white cardstock and cut them out to give a mat a slight bit bigger for each and sticking them together.  I used a series of the larger book dies for the main card shape.  I just cut out the frame and the “brad” elements with scissors.

I shaped all the “book page” layers over the side of a table before sticking them all together, and I used glue gel for dimension for adding the elements at the end.

This is a very dimensional card and I enclosed a wooden stand with it when I gave it.

BookCard 01 03I think that these pictures show how dimensional I made the card and embelishments.

It’s time for another inspiration post from me on the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog“. This is more or less what I posted over on that blog –

.

Hi everybody.

For our July posts every Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog Design Team member will be working with the wonderful new collection “Seaside Retreat” that was launched in the Dragons Lair Designs Store on the 1st.  This collection is certainly apt for this time of year and perfect, not only for scrapbooking and digi-scrapping all the photos taken on seaside trips and holidays, but also ideal for summer birthday cards and for home decor items as well.

I’ve already shown everybody a shaker card I made using items from the collection, but today I’d like to show you a framed bit of home decor.

Sea01

.

These are what I used:

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Items from the “Seaside Retreat” collection available – here – in the store.

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth A4 white cardstock
  • Tonic Funky Glue
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • Ultra tacky red back sticky tape
  • Foam Pads
  • Hunkydory Shadowbox Frames
  • Blue ProMarker

Equipment:

  • Scissors
  • Craft Knife
  • My Craft Studio Elite Software

Method:

I printed out one of the blue backgrounds from the collection. I also took the sailing boat, anchor and seagull into the My Craft Studio software and resized them to the size I required before also printing them out.  These elements were then cut out.
I tore the blue background into random, white tipped, waves.
Having stuck a white background to the inside back of the shadowbox frame I coloured in a blue clowdy sky with my ProMarker.
I then stuck the sea waves using funky glue along the bottom edges of each.
I folded the frame into shape and used tape to attach the foiled frame on top.
I used foam pads and glue gel to attach the elements in place, giving shape to the sails and boat before sticking down.

Here’s an angled shot of my creation to try and show the dimension.

Sea03

And here’s a closeup of the sailing boat.

And that is it from me for today. I hope my cards will inspire you to visit the Dragons Lair Designs store and have a play with combining some of the digital downloads available to buy with some of your other crafting equipment to make different creations.

It’s time for another inspiration post from me on the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog“. This is more or less what I posted over on that blog –

.

On this blog on the 1st I did a launch day extra using the new collection.  For that I did a quite brightly coloured, digital, scrapbook layout.  So for my post today I decided to try and inspire you with items from the collection used in quite a different way.

I decided to use a limited number of items from the collection, together with cardstock, an embossing folder, and some dies to make an engagement card and a sympathy card.

ATasteOfSummer 01 04 ATasteOfSummer 02 02

.

These are what I used:

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Items from the “A Taste Of Summer” collection available – here – in the store.

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth A4 white cardstock
  • Tonic Funky Glue
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • Fingerlift Tape
  • Nuvo Alcohol Marker

Equipment:

  • Scissors;
  • Craft Knife
  • Baby Blue
  • Hougie Board
  • My Craft Studio Elite Software
  • Assortment of Tattered Lace Dies
  • Tattered Lace Border Embossing Folder
  • Baby Blue Die Cutter

Method:

I used my Hougie Board to measure and score 2 x base cards of near enough 6″ square, using my scissors to cut off the extra.

I printed out two of the square panels from the collection at 6″ square and cut these out and stuck the bright one to the front of one of the cards using fingerlift tape.

I’d bought a small Baby Blue cutting machine when it was on offer so that my youngest nephews could have it to craft when they wanted to, but I wanted to show a way that by playing around the smaller machines could be used to decorate larger pieces.

For the second card I took the 2nd size down of some nesting dies and drew around the outside of it in the centre of the bluey/grey panel and cut it out roughly using a craft knife.  I then put the die on this cut out piece and put it through the Baby Blue to cut it properly.  I cut out the largest of the nesting dies from a piece of the white cardstock.  Using fingerlift tape I stuck the gutted piece of cardstock onto the front of the card, placed the white mat to cover the hole cut in the centre then put the piece cut from the centre on top.  Of course I could have printed out the panel the 2nd time and just cut a piece to fit in the Baby Blue, not used the round about method to gut the larger panel without destroying it, but remember I’m trying to show round about ways of doing larger projects with smaller die cutting machines.

I used the My Craft Studio software simply to place on two different types of flowers from the collection, resizing and copying them numberous times, as well as the hearts element from the collection, until I had a page full of flowers and hearts.  This page I then simply printed out onto the same cardstock I’d used for everything else.  I cut these out as well.

I took some more of the white cardstock and cut out a panel 1cm smaller than the card front.  This I cut into strips, cutting 1cm from the edge of the central panel.  I put one panel through the Baby Blue in an embossing folder, one with a heart die at the top and another with a melded heart die on it.  These three were then stuck to the card front, spaced out so that the background panel could be seen around and through them, using funky glue.

I used more Tattered Lace dies to cut out the praying hands, the greetings, one of them twice, and the flourish.  I used a toneing alcohol marker to colour in one of the greetings and used more funky glue to stick it behind the uncoloured one to create a shaddow.

I then used funky glue to attach flourish, praying hands, hearts and greetings to the front of the cards, and used glue gel to attach the flowers.

ATasteOfSummer 02 03  ATasteOfSummer 02 04

Llongyfarchiadau is Welsh for Congratulations.  I think hearts and flowers from the collection make a nice embelishment on an engagement card.

ATasteOfSummer 01 03  ATasteOfSummer 01 02

Meddwl Amdanat is Welsh for Thinking Of You, So I wnated to keep this card quite simple and subdued for this sympathy card.

Where is the time going – already the 1st of June and it seems like the year just started a few weeks ago.  As it’s the 1st of the month it’s time for the launch of a new collection over in the Dragons Lair Designs online shop.

This month the collection is called “A Taste of Summer”.

A few days ago I showed a clip from a digital scrapbook layout as a bit of a sneaky peak online.

ATasteOfSummerSneakyPeak1sneak

Today I’d like to show you the full digital scrapbook layout.  I found a couple of pictures of an Amarylis I grew a few years ago to put in my layout this time.

I found two pictures from my digital photo library and took them into my software, together with lots of items from the brand new collection. I then moved around, resized, added drop shaddows, etc., until I was happy with the layout.  It is actually two flower heads in one photo that you can see across the top two boxes.

More people than just me have been working with the collection in the few days working up to the launch, so you might like to pop over to the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog to have a look at some makes from other members of the DLD Design Teams, and collect a FREEBIE from the new collection

Don’t forget that there’s still plenty of time to pop over to the Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog to get your entry into the “Women At Work” challenge this month. Interpret the theme how ever you like. Let’s see how many different working roles that women take on we get covered by the time all the entries are in the end of the month.

We have lots of different activities going on in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group during each month.  For one of these challenges, which runs from 20th of one month to 19th of the next, we get given a mini collection to play with and make any layout we want. This can be a digital layout, print out and make any size scrapbook page, a layout for a card front, whatever we feel like.

I’ve made a digital scrapbook layout for the May/June challenge.

This is what I came up with.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite Software

Method:

I found two pictures from my digital photo library and took them into my software, together with lots of items from the mini collection.  I then moved around, resized, added drop shaddows, etc., until I was happy with the layout.

Floral Delight Card Front

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

Today I’m showing you a card front design I put together.  I will be printing it out at just under 6″ square and sticking to the front of 6″ square base cards to make a little set of notelets.  I’ve put everything together digitally ready for printing out so that the cards/notelets I put it on will be flat and go through the post in the UK on a standard letter stamp.

I don’t know about everybody else, but family members see my cards and then as which ones will go through the post on an ordinary stamp, because, if they have to post a card, they don’t want the postage to be more expensive than the card.  But of course, larger or more dimensional cards are great for hand delivery or for realy special occasions where they are included in a parcel with a gift.

This is what the simple layout looks like.  I’ve not put on a greeting because the aim is to make a pack of notecards that can be used for Welsh or English communication.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

  • Items from the “Floral Delight” mini kit – available as a freebie currently on the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog – Here!
(If you don’t get it before the end of the week as a freebie it will be available in the DLD online store in the Pound Shop after that.)

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite Software

Method:

I only used items from the collection to make this notelet front, but I did use a digital punch from within the software to make the grassy frond shaddows that I put on the design several times.  Everything was just layered up and re-sized until I was happy.

Mixing Up The Freebies For May

Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

Today I’m mixing freebies that came from two different areas of the Dragons Lair Designs family of sites and creating one card.

.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Consumables:

  • Super Smooth White Cardstock 250gsm
  • 5″ square pre cut and scored, scalloped edge white base card
  • Nuvo alcohol markers
  • Tonic Funky Glue Pen
  • Nuvo Drops

Equipment:

  • Tattered Lace Dies from different sets
  • Baby Blue Die Cutting Machine
  • Scissors

Method:

To start with I chose one background from the freebie mini collection that came with the Sunday Showcase and printed it out as large as it would go on an A4 sheet of cardstock.

I also printed out the digi-stamp that is available in the Fan Group for this month’s colouring challenge and printed it out at the size I wanted for my project.

I used alcohol markers to colour in the digistamp before using an oval Tattered Lace die (from the oval shutter card set) to cut the image out.  I also used a plain oval die to cut out a creamy coloured cardstock from my stash to go behind it.

I used Tattered Lace small flower dies to cut several sizes of flowers from the background, as well as cutting two decorative edge borders (again the die for this came from the oval shutter card set).  A plain strip of the creamy coloured cardstock was also cut out, but using scissors this time.

I then used the glue to attach everything to my card front – I shaped the flowers a bit first using my fingers, and didn’t stick the ovals flat all the way to the edge so that it raised a bit round giving the illusion of dimension while still going into a flat envelope.

Here are more photos of my card at different angles –
