Thank you for clicking over to have a look at my blog.

Today’s card was made for a challenge over on the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group.

Each month we get given a digi stamp image for free to work with and we need to get a photo of what we make with the image uploaded to an album in the group by the end of that month.

This month we were given a frame to work with.  Which of course let it open to any Fan Group member who wanted to take part to decide what they’d use the frame for.

I chose to make a music themed easel card using a couple of other digi-stamps from the Dragons Lair Designs online store with the frame.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

  • Flower Design Frame – Freebie for any Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group member who wants to take part in the challenge.
  • Yoo Hoo Rocks
  • Cat with Music – previous freebie from Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group challenge.

Equipment:

  • Paper trimmer
  • Hougie Board
  • Scissors
  • Nuvo alcohol markers

Consumables:

  • Quick grab wet glue
  • 1mm deep, double sided foam tape
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • A4 sheet of 250gsm super smooth white cardstock
  • A4 sheet of patterned cardstock
  • Piece of sewing cotton

Method:

I put all three digi-stamps onto a single A4 working area and printed them out at the size I required.  I then coloured them all in using Nuvo alcohol marker pens before cutting them out.

Icouldn’t hope to cut out the thin lines of the whiskers and the wires from the cat’s MP3 player to his earphones, so I took a piece of sewing thread and used a needle to put it through the cardstock at the right places.

I scored the cardstock at 6″ and 3″ and put the frame topper corner to corner along the 3″ line and marked the width.  I then cut the card to this width before folding along the score lines.  The piece trimmed off was further trimmed to fit on the inside as a stopper, holding it in place with foam tape.

I used wet glue to attach half the frame to the folded over area of the card front and then used glue gel to attach the two other images to the front of the frame.

FrameCard 01You can just about see the thread on the cat from his MP3 player in this photo if you click and make it larger.

Some Colouring In

An Update, Some Musings and Some Colouring In

-oOo-

I’m not big on colouring in just for the sake of colouring in.  I like to be able to do something with what I’ve coloured.  Which is why I like digi-stamps so much – ones that lend themselves to putting on card fronts after colouring in.  But during the middle of last year at some point my mother passed me one of her crossword magazines that had a colouring insert and said that one of the images was for a competition.  So I got on with colouring in the image and took a photo before I posted it off.  It’s not perfect of course, because it was coloured mostly on my side in bed, but not too bad. Pity that I didn’t make a note of what type and colours of markers I used.

The other bits of colouring I’ve got to show you today are from Hot Off The Press “… For Colorists” books.  These will be made into something, probably a card, in due course.  I have made a note of the type of colouring medium used this time, but not the individual colours.

.

COLOURING IN:

This was my colouring in entry.  I actually forgot to go online to have a look at the dozen or so that were chosen for the online vote.  Think I was feeling too poorly at that time to think about competition entries and winners.

Colouring In 02

On the 9th I showed you a Mother’s Day card I’d made using one image from a Hot Off The Press “… For Colorists” book.  Well the next two images are two more I’ve coloured in from two different “… For Colorists” books. I actually bought a set of four together so you will probably see more of them appear in my crafting over the next few months.

I’ve not made these into cards yet, but I’ll show you what I make with them in due course.  I don’t have a specific project in mind yet, I just wanted to see how they’d turn out before I decided.  Especially the Steampunk one, as I’m not really a big fan of steampunk and was challenging myself a bit with the first of these two.  I wouldn’t even have bought the book if it hadn’t been in the set of four and I loved the images in the other three.

From the Hot Off The Press “Steampunk For Colorists”

Steampunk for Colourists 01 01I’ve got as far as deciding that I will cut it out around the inner panel, so haven’t coloured in the outside corner pieces.  The Heart and wings are coloured in using ProMarkers and the rest using Nuvo markers, some of the elements using the metalic Nuvo markers.

This second one is from the “Butterflies For Colorists”.

Buterflies for Colourists 01 01Got a bit of a blog on the right hand side somehow, but not to worry as I’ll cut it out to the black line and it will be fine.  This one is coloured in all in Spectrum Sparkle pens from the Spring/Summer set.  It looks seriously sparkly in real life but I simply can’t get the sparkle to show in photos.  Perhaps I’ll try a very angled photo once I get it made up into some creation to see if the sparkle will show up then.  Or perhaps shine a torch or something at an angle at it when taking a photograph.
