Nadolig Llawen : Happy Christmas

To all visitors to my blog –

Nadolig Llawen :  Happy Christmas

I hope you are keeping well and are able to enjoy Christmas with your nearest and dearest.

I haven’t got a lot of crafting to show you today, but I can show you the Christmas cake I decorated.

I decided to keep it simple this year, so, it was time to get out my snowflake icing cutters and a few other cake decorating tools. I chose 3 sizes of the same style of snowflake, although I have more cutters of another snowflake shape.

I did cheat big time and bought the cake (and added some brandy myself), marzipan and white icing (both ready rolled). Also a pack of silver.

I placed marzipan then white icing over the whole cake, trimming off the sheet of icing to leave a skirt onto the cake board and smoothed it off a bit with one of my tools.

The snowflakes are made from what the pack called “silver icing” but is in actual fact gray icing with an edible pearlescent shimmer powder included in the pack to brush over the icing after rolling and cutting.

I decided not to brush the powder over the sides of the snowflakes, but rather just rub it over the top of each one, as I liked the look of the darker edges makeing the snowflakes stand out more.

Finished Cake

And here you can see the finished cake. (I played with the black and white filter for this photo.)

Here’s the cake on our kitchen table with some flowers my mother and I received from a cousin behind.

I don’t think I’ve blogged all the crafting I’ve done this year yet, so keep an eye out for more posts in the next few weeks.
