It’s time for another inspiration post from me on the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog“. This is more or less what I posted over on that blog –

.

Hi everybody.

For our July posts every Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog Design Team member will be working with the wonderful new collection “Seaside Retreat” that was launched in the Dragons Lair Designs Store on the 1st.  This collection is certainly apt for this time of year and perfect, not only for scrapbooking and digi-scrapping all the photos taken on seaside trips and holidays, but also ideal for summer birthday cards and for home decor items as well.

I’ve already shown everybody a shaker card I made using items from the collection, but today I’d like to show you a framed bit of home decor.

These are what I used:

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Items from the “Seaside Retreat” collection available – here – in the store.

Consumables:

  • 250gsm Super Smooth A4 white cardstock
  • Tonic Funky Glue
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • Ultra tacky red back sticky tape
  • Foam Pads
  • Hunkydory Shadowbox Frames
  • Blue ProMarker

Equipment:

  • Scissors
  • Craft Knife
  • My Craft Studio Elite Software

Method:

I printed out one of the blue backgrounds from the collection. I also took the sailing boat, anchor and seagull into the My Craft Studio software and resized them to the size I required before also printing them out.  These elements were then cut out.
I tore the blue background into random, white tipped, waves.
Having stuck a white background to the inside back of the shadowbox frame I coloured in a blue clowdy sky with my ProMarker.
I then stuck the sea waves using funky glue along the bottom edges of each.
I folded the frame into shape and used tape to attach the foiled frame on top.
I used foam pads and glue gel to attach the elements in place, giving shape to the sails and boat before sticking down.

Here’s an angled shot of my creation to try and show the dimension.

And here’s a closeup of the sailing boat.

And that is it from me for today. I hope my cards will inspire you to visit the Dragons Lair Designs store and have a play with combining some of the digital downloads available to buy with some of your other crafting equipment to make different creations.

Jul 012016

As it’s the 1st of the month it’s time for the launch of a new collection over in the Dragons Lair Designs online shop.

The new collection being launched today is called “Seaside Retreat“, and here’s a flavour of what is in the collection.

SeasideRetreatElementsOf course there are other items such as background designs available as well, so the collection has got a lot to offer for both scrapbooking and digi-scrapbooking, as well as for summer birthday cards and home decor.

A few days ago I showed a sneaky peak of a creation I’d made ready for today’s launch using some items from this collection –

SneakyPeak01

Today I can show you the whole thing and tell you a bit about how I made it.

Firstly I should say that it is a shaker card that has an acetate front and sea creatures inside.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Elite Software
  • Scissors
  • Seaside motif stencils

Consumables:

  • Nuvo drops – pearlescent
  • Nuvo mouse – blue
  • Hunkydory shadowbox frame
  • 8″ square base card
  • Aceatate
  • 29gsm Supersmooth White Cardstock
  • Super sticky, red backed, double sided tape
  • Pinflair Glue Gel
  • Tonic Funky Glue

Method:

I started by printing out one of the lighter backgrounds, cutting it to the size of the frame and using a stencil I put two shells and a sea-horse on the backgrounds using Nuvo products in a light perlescent ivory/shell for the shells and blue for the sea-horse.  While these were drying I took lots of other items from the collection into My Craft Studio software, copied, flipped, resized, etc., until I had all the items I wanted for my shaker card.

I cut everything out.

I put the background into the back of my shadowbox frame, stuck it into place using funky glue and then put the sides of the box together.  I cut a piece of acetate the same size as the front and cut a couple of strips from the acetate left over.  Two sea-horses were attached to the end of the little strips and these were attached to hang from the top edge of the frame.  I tore some seaweed type pieces from another background I’d printed from the collection and attached these so that they came up from the bottom of the frame.  Inside I stuck a few items, such as the anchor and small porthole to the background with glue gel and allowed them to completely set before putting in a dozen or so small, cut out, star fish and sea-horses that I’d cut out and coloured their backs with a toneing colour so that when they flipped over when shaken they were not a stark white on the reverse.

I put super sticky tape all around the top of the frame, attached the acetate and then put another layer and attached the foiled frame on top.  To the front of this I attached a “porthole” element I’d cut out near the centre.

I then attached the whole shaker frame to the front of a card and trimmed to fit.

And there you have it, a framed shaker card with sea creatures both floating on acetate and moving freely around when shaken.
