Design Team Creation

-oOo-

It’s time for another inspiration post from me on the “Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog“. This is more or less what I posted over on that blog –

For our February posts every Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog design team member will be working with the wonderful new collection “Understated Elegance” that was launched in the Dragons Lair Designs Store yesterday.

A few days ago I put a sneaky peak photo of part of my creation up in a few places on Facebook and asked everybody to have a think about what it was I was making.

Teaser 02

Well today I’m going to show you.

Understated Elegance 05

Did you guess right?!

It is actually a holder to hold bookmarks and a couple of bookmarks to put in it.  It can stand on a shelf using the integrated stand on the back, or it can be hung up using the eyelette hole in the top.  It is actually to go with the poster I showed everybody in my post yesterday, to encourage readers to use a bookmark rather than turn down pages of old books.

This is what it looks like from below – you will see that there’s some depth to the pocket that’s on the front to hold the bookmarks.

Understated Elegance 06

These are what I used:

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Items from the “Understated Elegance” collection available – here – in the store.

Consumables:

  • 300gsm White Cardstock
  • 120gsm White Paper
  • Quick Grab Wet Glue
  • Metal Corner Embelishments
  • Glue Gel
  • Eyelets
  • Pale Yellow Organza Ribbon

Equipment:

  • Trimmer
  • Scissors
  • Hougie Board
  • Crop-a-dial

Method:

I printed out various items from the collection at different sizes to go with my project onto paper.  The bookmarks were cut out and stuck onto cardstock before the card was trimmed to leave a small border.

Understated Elegance 04

I cut the main, plain, background to the required size and stuck this onto another sheet of cardstock, and again trimmed to leave a border. I’d printed the next layer with the turned up bottom right corner at the size I wnated so simply had to cut this out before sticking it on.

The pocket was made by sticking on another element, that I’d printed out at the size required, onto a third sheet of cardstock.  I then used a scoreboard to score this a small way from the image and again at 1cm, 2cm, and 3cm from the original line. Folding at the 1 and 2cm lines and cutting at the 3cm line and the corners, etc., I created a pocket that was stuck to the front of my base panel.

Some of the waste cardstock was cut into a stand shape and stuck to the back of the main panel.

I used my crop-a-dial to put a hole and set eyelets in the bookmarks and the base panel.

I finished off by adding the ribbon to the bookmarks and the metal corner embelishments to the corners of the main panels.

Today a new collection is being launched in the Dragons Lair Designs store. It is called “Understated Elegance”.  It has a very vintage look about it, but can be used in lots of different styles of creations both digital and printed out for hybrid or other crafting.

I did give people a sneaky peak of one item I’d made using some elements from the kit a few days ago on Facebook and told everybody I’d tell you exactly what it was for at a future date.  Keep your eye out for my post tomorrow to see exactly what I made and to see if you guessed correctly.

But for today I’ve got a simple make to show you.

It’s actually a poster –

Teaser 01b

You are now wondering what it says, aren’t you?

Well the poster is actually to be put by a bookshelf of old books reminding whoever wants to read any of the books to use a bookmark and not turn over page corners.

If you pop over to the Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog you can see some of the sneaky peaks and launch day creations that other members of the design team have been making using this brand new collection the last week or so.  And remember to pop over to the store to see exactly what components are in the collection and to make your purchases while it’s got a special launch discount on.

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:

Consumables:

Equipment:

  • My Craft Studio Software

I simply took various elements from the “Understated Elegance” collection into the software, played around with the wording and layout, and then printed it out.  A quick and simple make.

Sneaky Peak Post!

 Posted by at 04:06 pm
Jan 292016

Hi Everybody!

After a rather rough 2015, with not a lot of crafting and even less blogging from me I’m hopeing that 2016 will be a better year.  I’ll do a longer post in a week or so to start catching up with blogging some of the items I did make during last year, but in the meantime …

I couldn’t resist putting up a quick sneaky peak of what I’m currently just about finished….

Teaser 02

Have you got any idea what it is I’m working on?

I will tell you that I’m using some items from a brand new collection called “Understated Elegance” from Dragons Lair Designs – but it’s not available in the store until the 1st February so you can’t get it just yet.

I’ll be posting again the begining of next week with photos of the finished creation and to tell you what it is.

Get your thinking caps on and leave a comment if you think you know – no prizes for a correct answer, this is just for fun.  But keep an eye out in the future as I just might let you know of something where there will be a prize.
